About The Position

Engineers and Geoscientists BC is seeking a Compliance Auditor II for a contract position until June 2027 in Burnaby. This role involves planning, scheduling, and executing compliance audits, both individually and as part of a team for larger firms. The position also focuses on improving policies and procedures for the compliance audit program, and supporting registrants by answering questions and providing guidance on regulatory requirements. The Compliance Auditor II will lead multi-auditor teams for large firm audits, conduct practice reviews, and mentor junior auditors. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, enjoy a people-facing role, and thrive in a team environment, contributing to the professional practice of engineering and geoscience in the province.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Geoscience is required.
  • Required to be a registered professional with, or eligible to be registered with, Engineers and Geoscientists BC (P.Eng., P.L.Eng., P.Geo., or P.L.Geo.).
  • ISO 9001:2015 Lead Auditor registered with International Register of Certificated Auditors (IRCA).
  • 7+ years working with engineering/geoscience professionals in a firm where the practice of professional engineering/geoscience is the core aspect of their operations.
  • 6+ years experience writing and submitting formal technical reports.
  • 6+ years of scheduling/project management experience.
  • 2+ years experience auditing organizations for compliance to ISO 9001 (or IRCA-acceptable alternative standards).
  • Technical analysis and writing skills.
  • Effective communication skills, including experience deescalating tense interactions with clients, registrants, auditees, and/or public.
  • Experience working within a team environment to complete and report on the progress of complex projects.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Products including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.
  • Experience mentoring trainees e.g. Engineers In Training, Geoscientist In Training, or junior auditors.
  • Public speaking skills; experience delivering presentations online and in person.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the planning, delivery, and maintenance of the Registrant Firm Compliance Audit Program, and the Individual Registrant Compliance Audit Program.
  • Interprets and applies regulatory and industry requirements to moderately complex situations, ensuring compliance with the Professional Governance Act and Engineers and Geoscientists BC’s bylaws.
  • Manages interactions with registrants who may be uncooperative or resistant, applying conflict resolution techniques to reduce tension and maintain a professional dialogue.
  • Applies regulatory requirements to routine and moderately complex situations to ensure compliance and uphold professional standards.
  • Collects, analyzes, and synthesizes information on regulatory and compliance issues from various sources.
  • Plans and carries out individual compliance audits and firm compliance audits, with a target of 70 per year.
  • Acts as Lead Auditor for Moderate Complexity Audits, and for audits requiring multiple auditors.
  • Prepares and submits compliance audit reports with minimal input from other audit staff.
  • Acts as an audit quality reviewer primarily focusing on identifying errors and consistent assessment of regulatory requirements.
  • Independently processes and follows up on corrective actions identified during compliance audits.
  • Provide advice and ongoing support to individual and firm registrants with respect to audits.
  • Assists in the improvement of the registrant firm and individual registrant compliance audit programs by obtaining feedback from auditees and identifying areas for refinement.
  • Deliver presentations and training sessions on the audit program and related topics, as required.
  • Other duties as assigned by direct leader and, as appropriate, members of the departmental leadership team.
