About The Position

River Valley Foods is looking for a Compliance and Safety Coordinator to join our team and build a career in food safety and compliance. This is a developmental role that provides hands-on exposure to the systems, records, training, and processes that support both food safety and workplace safety across our facilities. Food safety means keeping our products safe to eat through good manufacturing and distribution practices, sanitation, allergen control, and Safe Quality Food (SQF) certification standards. Occupational safety means keeping our people safe on the job through OSHA compliance and hazard prevention. The inspection data, training records, and documentation managed by this role help both programs function effectively and hold up under regulatory and voluntary audits.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Valid driver's license required
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and follow-through.
  • Comfortable using technology, including Microsoft 365, digital forms, and software systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to manage multiple responsibilities, deadlines, and tracking activities across locations.
  • Collaborative and comfortable working with employees and leaders across different departments.
  • Curious, coachable, and eager to learn about food safety, workplace safety, and compliance.

Nice To Haves

  • associate or bachelor's degree in a related field is a plus
  • Experience in food manufacturing, warehousing, distribution, or another regulated environment is helpful, but not required.
  • Strong aptitude, reliability, and willingness to learn are valued over industry experience alone.

Responsibilities

  • Review and track Nonconformance Reports (NCRs) and Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPAs), ensuring records are complete and deadlines are met.
  • Follow up with facility and department leaders on outstanding items and documentation.
  • Organize supporting evidence and verify documentation is complete before items are routed for final review or closure.
  • Manage routine activities within the company's Learning Management System, including uploading training, assigning courses, monitoring completion, and maintaining training records.
  • Support the company-wide training matrix and reconcile classroom, hands-on, and digital training records.
  • Provide basic support to managers and employees related to training and compliance systems.
  • Review food safety, sanitation, safety, inspection, and checklist records for completeness, accuracy, and timely completion.
  • Follow up on missing or incomplete records and escalate unresolved gaps.
  • Maintain organized audit and inspection records and gather supporting documentation for audits and certifications.
  • Participate in food safety and occupational safety meetings, safety walks, Good Industry Practice (GIP) walks, and food safety audits.
  • Participate in mock recalls, food safety exercises, and safety drills as assigned.
  • Work alongside facility and department teams to learn and support food safety and workplace safety programs.
