About The Position

This is a senior position within the compliance department that will interact with clients and CBP on a regular basis as well as act as a resource for internal team members and the compliance team. This will require the ability to handle sensitive matters in a timely and professional manner.

Requirements

  • Licensed Customs Broker.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum five years of industry related experience.
  • Advanced HTS classification experience.
  • Intermediate or advanced skill in Microsoft Excel especially and other Microsoft office products (i.e. Word, Power Point).
  • Strong analytical skills including ability to analyze and summarize large set of complex data.
  • Strong communication skills including writing skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking abilities.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous technical/compliance background and language skills are a plus.
  • Strong customer service skill set preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews and analyzes customs forms CF 28 (Request for Information) and CF 29 (Notice of Action) to assist clients with determining the appropriate response to resolve the requests. Conducts entry audit, and runs reports to determine full scope of the issue covered by the CF28/CF29, and identify other clients who may be affected.
  • Generates and analyzes ACE data reports and internal system reports related to customs compliance and regulations.
  • Proactively identifies errors in entries and compliance issues through reporting and analytics, proposes corrections and process improvement to avoid similar issues in the future. Works with Deringer’s operations team and auditors to address the issues and implement preventive procedures.
  • Collaborates with corporate / regional auditors and conducts internal audits to assess customs compliance and regulations.
  • Collaborates with Regulatory Affairs to develop and implement trade and compliance procedures.
  • Evaluates and analyzes Free Trade Agreements, inquiries, such as USMCA, for validity. Conducts FTA eligibility analysis.
  • Provides recommendations for improvement and cost savings initiatives.
  • Identifies and mitigates compliance related risks such as tariff implications, trade agreements and other compliance related issues.
  • Files PSCs, tenders of duty, protests and prior disclosures as needed.
  • Maintains and develops client relationships.
  • Advanced HTS classifications.
  • Acts as a resource and provides guidance to Deringer’s various offices and departments.
  • Drafts professional communications and responds to correspondence.
  • Ensures compliance with Deringer specific policies and procedures, based on department’s specific tasks.
  • Stays up-to-date on regulations, laws, guidelines and Deringer’s requirements. Reviews Federal Register, CSMS Messages, and International Trade Today (ITT), analyzes regulatory changes and reports finding to the departments’ leadership. Acts as a resource to internal and external clients.
  • Researches binding rulings, summarizes finding and applies logical conclusions to questions presented by external and/or internal clients; reports finding to departments’ leadership for next level review.
  • Conduct basic legal and regulatory research and presents findings in a professional manner.
  • Proactively and timely coordinates dissemination of information obtained from customs publications, projects and research back to operations including other locations; this involves interrogating Deringer’s systems to understand who needs the information.
  • Performs calculations, reconciliations, analyzes reports, researches, and tracks and troubleshoots.
  • Pursues new sales’ leads; discusses and sells the Company’s services to current clients and promptly forwards potential leads to designated person (soft selling).
  • Handles confidential and non-routine information.
  • Facilitates projects of various scope and size.
  • Writes or provides presentation on a wide variety of topics.
  • Performs other tasks as assigned by management.
  • May require occasional travel (less than 10% of time).
