About The Position

This Compliance Adviser role will be based in Kitimat and reporting to the Environmental Compliance Lead. The role requires you to assist in ensuring that our Project operations at LNG Canada follows all applicable environmental laws and regulations in BC. You will also provide guidance on environmental issues, conduct audits, and support our sustainability initiatives to preserve the environment. The Compliance Advisor provides day to day support to LNG Canada environment and construction teams to ensure that compliance is integrated into construction planning and execution, to undertake assurance activities, and to address compliance events as required. The Compliance Advisor acts as the compliance focal for construction execution, supporting readiness reviews, technical queries and assurance processes for all LNG Canada Phase 1 construction works. You will also coordinate with EPC Contractors and internal LNG Canada project & Asset teams for Commissioning, Start-up & Operations for Phase 2.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field
  • 5 years of experience in environmental compliance management
  • Strong knowledge of BC environmental regulations
  • Excellent communication and analytical skills
  • Strong knowledge of environmental laws and regulations, including the Canadian Environmental Protection Act and BC Environmental Management Act
  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada (i.e., by way of Canadian citizenship, permanent residency, or valid work permit)
  • Live in the beautiful District of Stikine (Kitimat/Terrace). For applicants located outside of the region, this role will result in temporarily relocating to Kitimat, in which accommodations will be provided by LNG Canada as per our policy, accompanied or unaccompanied status.
  • Are willing to comply with LNGC’s drug-free and harassment-free work environment and comply with all safety policies and procedures.
  • Undergo a pre-placement medical assessment of your fitness for duty, and Pre-Site Access testing for alcohol and specified drugs.

Responsibilities

  • Liaise closely with the Execute team to ensure all permitting, compliance and environmental aspects are in place for execute phase.
  • Liaise with the execute phase Regulatory Compliance team to develop the Project compliance management system.
  • Lead the development of and support approval process for Project environmental management plans, procedures, and work method statements.
  • Provide day-to-day compliance support to the LNG Canada construction and functional teams related to compliance requirements and interpretation of commitments and mitigations.
  • Liaise with subject matter experts, Legal Counsel and various LNG Canada functional teams to achieve compliance for the Project.
  • Coordinate updates and consultation related to project management plans as defined in permits, approvals and authorizations.
  • Manage compliance events related to construction execution, including but not limited to regulatory inspections, information requests and audits.
  • Provide advice on environmental regulations, including air and water quality, waste management, and contaminated sites.
  • Conduct audits and assessments to identify compliance issues and recommend corrective actions whilst ensuring compliance with environmental laws and company policies.
  • Support sustainability initiatives and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Maintain records and support the preparation of reports and documentation required for regulatory/environmental compliance.
  • Collaborate with teams and stakeholders on environmental issues.
  • Support implementation of waste management plans, including waste minimization, treatment, and disposal.
  • Assist in the implementation and monitoring of environmental compliance programs and policies.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of environmental regulations and industry standards.
  • Help coordinate training sessions for employees on environmental compliance and best practices.
  • Collaborate with various departments to promote a culture of environmental responsibility within the organization.
  • Technical review of permit applications and implementation of environmental conditions and commitments upon receipt.
  • Work closely with external relations team to provide technical support.
