About The Position

This position is part of a small team that strives to positively impact local government success. Our role is to assist and support local government entities (LGEs) and their elected officials, board members, and employees in complying with Montana law. This position will provide compliance assurance of the bureau’s responsibilities by performing reviews of local government financial statements and audit reports in order to ensure compliance with various state, federal and governmental accounting regulations. In addition to accounting and auditing technical experience, this position will require self-management, professional judgment, critical thinking and problem-solving abilities. We are seeking an individual with a balance of accounting or financial experience and soft skills to work with the wide variety of stakeholders we serve. While it would be great if you were seasoned in governmental accounting, we are also willing to provide guidance and training to an individual with excellent soft skills and a passion for public service. In this position you will be afforded the opportunity to telework, however there will be required weekly in office day(s) in Helena. Specific conditions will be outlined as part of the job offer and must adhere to state policy.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting. OR Other combinations of education and experience will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.

Responsibilities

  • Provide compliance assurance of the bureau’s responsibilities by performing reviews of local government financial statements and audit reports in order to ensure compliance with various state, federal and governmental accounting regulations.
  • Analysis and review of financial reports, audits, and corrective action plans
  • Creation and maintenance of financial reporting tools and templates
  • Provide training to small and large groups
