AIG is seeking a Complex Director in Excess Claims to help reimagine how customers manage risk. This role offers an opportunity to grow skills and experience within the Excess Claims team. The Claims teams are recognized problem solvers, delivering technical excellence and service differentiation for a global claims handling experience. They provide responsive, fair, and professional service with empathy and efficiency, supported by robust stakeholder feedback and consistent processes. The Complex Director will handle large and complex Casualty claims, utilizing deep technical claims expertise in the investigation, evaluation, and disposition of new and existing 3rd party property and casualty claims. These multimillion-dollar claims can involve multi-vehicle auto accidents, plant explosions, class action injury claims, and catastrophic product liability claims. The role requires reviewing coverage under Excess Commercial General liability and auto policies, participating in claim investigations, and controlling litigation strategy. Responsibilities include directing litigation, attending mediations and trials, assessing liability and damages, recommending reserves, and presenting large value cases to senior management. Excellent customer service skills are essential for communicating with insureds, brokers, attorneys, and claimants. Success requires strong negotiation skills to resolve claims in challenging venues against elite plaintiff attorneys. Key activities include determining the scope of coverage, preparing and executing investigation strategies to identify critical issues affecting liability, causation, and damages, and assessing risk transfer and contribution opportunities. Clear communication with internal and external customers is vital for providing guidance and managing expectations. The role also involves proper documentation of exposure evaluation and resolution strategy, obtaining authority to negotiate multimillion-dollar claims, documenting evaluation and strategy, utilizing Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) as appropriate, and strategizing and budgeting litigation through discussions with counsel, vendors, and insureds. Establishing clear ground rules with defense and coverage counsel is necessary for financial control of budgets and expenses.
