About The Position

This role is responsible for an entire engineering project of major complexity within established scope, making technical decisions and recommendations that are recognized as authoritative and have an important impact on extensive engineering activities. The position applies advanced technical principles, theories, and concepts based on broad expertise or unique specialized knowledge, leading the development of innovative principles and ideas. The individual acts independently to determine improved methods and/or procedures to optimize technical product, cost, and schedule requirements, working under consultative direction and using independent judgment to accomplish objectives. This role also develops standards and guides for diverse engineering activities and conceives and plans investigations of broad areas of importance for which engineering precedents are lacking in areas critical to the program.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated expertise in aircraft flammability certification.
  • Extensive knowledge of 14 CFR 25.853 compliance.
  • Knowledge of material qualification.
  • Knowledge of delegated approval authority processes.
  • Knowledge of certification planning.
  • Knowledge of regulatory interpretation.
  • Knowledge of testing.
  • Cross-functional leadership supporting aircraft development and certification programs.
  • Test witnessing experience including 25.853(a)(c) and (h), 25.856(a), 25.1713(c).
  • FAA DER, AR, ODA, or equivalent delegated authority experience.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related curriculum, or equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
  • 13 years specific technical discipline or 15 years broad engineering experience in several technical disciplines.
  • Experience credit considered for related advanced degrees limited to 2 years for Masters and 4 years for PhD in fields applicable to this job.

Responsibilities

  • Develop certification approaches that minimize testing while maintaining regulatory compliance.
  • Approve compliance findings independently.
  • Identify compliance risks early in the design phase and drive resolution before certification testing.
  • Perform root cause analysis on flammability test failures and develop corrective actions.
  • Assess supplier material data, qualification packages, and manufacturing changes that could impact flammability compliance.
  • Analyze how engineering changes affect certified flammability baselines and approval requirements.
  • Engage FAA/EASA authorities and resolve ambiguous regulatory requirements.
  • Influence without authority.
  • Provide technical leadership.
  • Exercise engineering judgment.
  • Communicate at the executive level.
  • Manage program risk.
  • Mentor junior compliance engineers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
