About The Position

This is a Weekend Liaison/Design Engineer position in the Structural/Mechanical Engineering Completions group, responsible for the outfitting of new large cabin Gulfstream aircraft. The primary role is to ensure all mechanical and structural engineering related production issues are addressed and resolved in a timely fashion. This position will also have the opportunity to engage in engineering design, modeling, and drafting of new and derivative versions of interior furnishings and wire harnesses as part of outfitting new aircraft. The candidate will work in a proactive team-based environment with Operations, Engineering, Certification, and Quality. This position is in Appleton, Wisconsin and is focused on aircraft cabinetry, monuments, and associated wire harnesses. Examples include custom cabinetry such as galleys, lavatories, closets, storage compartments, interior peripheries, water/waste systems, entertainment equipment installations, and seating installations. Engineering includes installations for commodities along with necessary airframe modifications to meet load requirements of the interior installation. The position is intended to provide weekend coverage to support Operations and maintain aircraft build schedules. The ideal candidate must be a self-starter and able to work alone to solve problems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree Engineering or a related curriculum required or equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job.
  • 18 months related Engineering experience.
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Must have strong project management capabilities.
  • Must have working knowledge of AutoCAD and CATIA V5.
  • Ability to convey technical concepts in both written and verbal formats.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.

Nice To Haves

  • Liaison and/or MRB experience creating dispositions in a manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • EWIS experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of Title 14 of the Code of Federal Regulations (14CFR Part 25), as it pertains to Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulation procedures and the STC process as it relates to certification of Aircraft Interiors is a plus, but on the job training is available.

Responsibilities

  • Review and disposition of all manufacturing (production, completion, vendor) issues relating to material discrepancies, engineering data, and electrical harnesses.
  • Determine root cause(s) of engineering errors and drive solutions back to the upfront engineering process to improve quality.
  • Ensure Operations and Engineering are informed of all in-work issues that could impact the current aircraft schedule.
  • Coordinate with other groups to assure design requirements and objectives are maintained.
  • Create engineering data as required based on departmental needs.
  • Solves typical engineering problems within assigned discipline.
  • Provides technical assistance to engineering staff and contributes to completion of project milestones.
  • Responsible for a complex engineering assignment, or a full project of lesser complexity.
  • Follows established schedules while developing plans for engineering assignments.
  • Obtains appropriate level of supervisor approvals for work accuracy and adequacy.
  • Proficiently applies company/organization policies and procedures.
  • Actively works to improve daily processes, and ensures all work meets customer requirements.
  • Maintains a current and up-to-date knowledge of developments and application of technical principles, theories, and concepts in assigned field of expertise.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
