About The Position

The Competitive Sports and Special Events Coordinator supports the Associate Director of Pacific Recreation by providing operational leadership for Competitive Sports, Wellness Programming, Special Events, and assigned recreation program areas. The coordinator oversees the day to day administration of these programs through student staff supervision, program implementation, event execution, and operational management while contributing to Pacific Recreation’s strategic priorities. This position will have regular office hours Monday to Friday 11am to 8pm.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in social science, public health, higher education, sports administration, recreation, exercise science, or related field.
  • One (1) year of experience in Recreation, including but not limited to competitive sports, facilities, fitness programming, membership services, and/or adventure programming.
  • One (1) year of experience leading and supervising staff.
  • Standard CPR /First Aid Instructor Certification (to be obtained within three (3) months of employment).

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the hiring, onboarding, training, scheduling, supervision, coaching, evaluation, and development of assigned student employees, including Recreation Managers, Recreation Staff, Fitness Attendants, Intramural Officials, and Event Staff.
  • Develop and maintain student staff schedules, monitor availability, and adjust staffing to meet operational needs.
  • Provide leadership during evening and weekend operations while ensuring consistent implementation of departmental policies, procedures, customer service standards, and risk management practices.
  • Recruit, train, schedule, and evaluate Intramural Officials each semester.
  • Coordinate all aspects of the University’s Intramural Sports program, including league administration, scheduling, tournaments, participant communication, and program assessment.
  • Assist in the oversight and support of Sport Clubs through officer development, scheduling, and operational guidance.
  • Lead the planning, coordination, implementation, and assessment of wellness initiatives, membership appreciation events, and departmental special events.
  • Coordinate event logistics including staffing, facility reservations, equipment, vendors, marketing timelines, and event day operations.
  • Collaborate with campus partners to develop innovative recreation and wellness programming that supports student success and campus engagement.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of assigned Pacific Recreation program areas while supporting the Associate Director in achieving departmental priorities and strategic initiatives.
  • Coordinate operational logistics to ensure facilities, equipment, staffing, and program resources are prepared for assigned programs and events.
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Director of Member Services & Facilities to support facility operations related to assigned recreation programs and special events.
  • Coordinate promotional efforts with the Marketing Team to increase participation and engagement in assigned programs.
  • Ensure compliance with University policies, emergency procedures, and industry standard risk management practices.
  • Prepare operational reports, incident documentation, participation statistics, and program assessments.
  • Utilize assessment data to evaluate program effectiveness and recommend continuous improvements.
  • Represent Pacific Recreation while collaborating with Student Life departments, campus partners, and community organizations.
  • Participate in Division of Student Life initiatives and departmental events as requested.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Recreation or AVP of Student Health and Wellness.
