About The Position

The Syracuse City School District is undergoing a new phase of innovation and transformation with the goal of ensuring that all students graduate high school with the skills needed to be ready for college and career. The district serves 19,000+ students Pre-K-12 across 34 schools and 4 alternative education programs. The district offers 120 different athletic teams for students in grades 7-12, with a coaching staff dedicated to working with student athletes. The modified program for grades 7-8 focuses on skill development and participation, preparing students for high school competition where academics, goal setting, teamwork, leadership, and sportsmanship are stressed. Under the supervision of the Director, the Visual Coordinator is responsible for planning and instruction of the Marching Band’s and Color Guard’s visual aspects. This is considered an extracurricular contract.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in rehearsal planning, show design, and in implementing a visual technique in conjunction with the Director.
  • Assist in the instructional delivery of marching basics and techniques.
  • Instruct and assists staff in marching/music technique in a full ensemble and sectional setting.
  • Engage students to practice, play and perform introduced materials.
  • Instruct students in routines and techniques for the purpose of teaching and improving fundamental skills.
  • Attend all rehearsals, sectionals and performances actively participating in assisting students in sectionals and whole group rehearsals.
  • Assist director in selecting appropriate marching band and color guard visuals to enhance all performances.
  • Monitor and control student behavior according to established procedures and share any concerns, etc. with the Director.
