Companion
About The Position
Under the supervision of a licensed nurse and/or physician, the Companion provides direct companion care to high-risk patients, remaining in constant attendance with the patient. The Companion also provides stand by personal care, comfort to patients, ensuring the patient has a safe and clean environment. This position description is intended to identify some of the duties and responsibilities of this position. MODOC MEDICAL CENTER reserves the right to modify, supplement, delete or augment the duties and responsibilities specified in this position description, at MODOC MEDICAL CENTER’S sole and absolute discretion.
Requirements
- High School graduate or equivalent.
- Current Basic Life Support Certification within three (3) months of hire date.
- Must function independently, have personal integrity, have flexibility and the ability to work effectively with other personnel, clients and support agencies.
- Able to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance.
Nice To Haves
- Additional specialized training in nursing care.
Responsibilities
- Standby assist the patient with minor daily activities; attends to the needs of the patient.
- Notifies appropriate licensed personnel when patient complains of pain or any other complains or concerns.
- Accompanies patient for tests, procedures, etc.
- Is in constant attendance of the patient.
- Reports and when appropriate, record any changes observed in the condition or behavior of the patient.
- Maintains a good working relationship with staff members and other departments of the facility.
- Demonstrates the ability to write clear, concise notes, simple charting that reflects patient care given.
- Adheres to the policies and procedures of the Department of Nursing and the facility.
- Adheres to dress code; appearance is neat and professional.
- Completes annual education requirements if applicable.
- Wears identification while on duty.
- Attends annual evaluation and participates actively in this process.
- Reports to work on time and as scheduled; completes work in designated time.
- Attends all meetings as appropriate.
- Exhibits the mission, ethics and goals of Modoc Medical Center in the performance of job duties.
- Answers phone calls, assists public, and forwards appropriately if necessary in a professional and friendly manner.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
