About The Position

The Companion Care Aide position focuses on providing companionship and support to registrants in the Adult Day Care program. Duties include assisting with dining services, engaging registrants in activities, ensuring their safety and well-being, and maintaining a clean and organized environment. This role requires strong communication skills, a genuine interest in the registrants, and adherence to ethical and confidentiality standards.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Possesses verbal, writing, and reading skills necessary to perform duties associated with the position.
  • Possesses a genuine interest in registrants and co-workers.
  • Arrives on time at the start of the shift and works when scheduled, including holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Cleans and busses tables in the main dining room after breakfast and after lunch.
  • Tidies up, empties trash, checks dates on any food in the refrigerator and disposes if applicable.
  • Sets up the dining room for meals, placing placemats, clothing protectors, silverware, and adaptive equipment.
  • Maintains registrant participation by conversing with registrants and providing them with dignity and respect.
  • Assists the Recreation Coordinator with entertainment activities, including accompanying on outings or providing activities in their absence.
  • Provides diversional activities to registrants who are restless, attempting to get up unassisted, or at risk for wandering/elopement.
  • Reports any concerns to the nurse/program director.
  • Transports registrants via wheelchair to the dining room, bathroom, and/or activities.
  • Sweeps, mops, and vacuums floors as needed.
  • Performs any other duties assigned by the RN and/or Director.
  • Reports any suspected mistreatment of registrants immediately to the Director.
  • Uses safety measures at all times for registrants and self.
  • Demonstrates good communication skills and makes appropriate responses to registrants, including the cognitively-impaired.
  • Attends in-service programs, staff meetings, and facility committee meetings as scheduled.
  • Performs duties according to the highest ethical and moral standards and in adherence with the facility’s corporate compliance plan and all applicable governing laws.
  • Adheres to the facility’s confidentiality statement in accessing and safeguarding protected health information (PHI) of registrants and employees.
