About The Position

The Community Wellness Worker facilitates and delivers recreational programs, services, and education opportunities for Whitefish River First Nation (WRFN) community members. This role is responsible for utilizing local resources and establishing local partnerships to enhance community capacity to meet recreational and health education needs, specifically to improve the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health of WRFN community members age 25+, as well as support the development of a network of integrated healing and wellness programs and services.

Requirements

Post-Secondary education in Recreation, Health and Wellness, or related field, or a suitable combination of training and experience.
Minimum of 2 years of experience in community planning initiatives related to recreation and wellness.
Proof of completion or willingness to obtain upon employment, the following: Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training, Crisis Intervention Training, Mental Health First Aid, Naloxone Training, Privacy Training, Occupational Health and Safety Training, Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS), and First Aid and CPR with AED
Ability to travel and work flexible hours, including evenings/weekends, as required.
Access to a reliable vehicle and must have a valid driver’s license.
Must provide an up-to-date Police Vulnerable Sector Screening Check upon hire.

Personal Trainer or Fitness Certifications is an asset or ability to undertake a professional development plan to become certified.

Responsibilities

Design, plan, implement, and evaluate community-based recreation and health education programs responsive to the community’s needs, with a focus on health improvement and decreasing health risk.
Complete WRFN’s internal work plans/program planning and adhere to/maintain program budget.
Develop strategies, based on: Resources and emerging opportunities, Responding effectively to resistance and barriers, A more efficient use of time, energy, and resources.
Organize an activities program that will maintain interest and progression over a period of time. g., lateral violence workshops, healthy relationships, physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health activities, etc.
Provide person-centered, culturally based, instrumental, and practical supports to WRFN community members, including appropriate interventions, referrals, and follow-up, advocacy, and ongoing support as directed.
Be aware of current legislation and accreditation standards as they impact the programs and processes.
Contribute to Annual Planning and Strategic Objectives of the Family Well-Being Department and WRFN in general.
Prepares and conducts necessary presentations on various topics, including active living, and creates physical activity resources and programs, physical activity guides,
Supplies relevant and timely information and communication to the community regarding events and
Promotes identified physical activity initiatives, seeking local and/or regional support by liaising with service partners within health, education, recreation, or other community organizations and
