ANIMAL CARE & CONTROL OF NYCNew York, NY

About The Position

Animal Care Centers of NYC is seeking a veterinarian for the Emma and Georgina Bloomberg Veterinary Center, a new model for accessible veterinary care in New York City. This center focuses on urgent and secondary care for referred clients, aiming to preserve the human-animal bond. It operates on a non-profit model, offering affordable care (e.g., $500 for a blocked cat) through partnerships with city government and foundations. The goal is to provide an outlet for veterinarians to offer care to patients facing financial euthanasia for treatable conditions, thereby saving lives and preserving families. The facility is a 50,000 sq ft hospital with advanced surgical and diagnostic capabilities, focusing on secondary care with good prognoses for conditions like pyometra, foreign body ingestion, and urinary tract obstructions, with aspirations to include limited orthopedics. The center also plans to offer affordable dental clinics and grooming, and hopes to retain a Licensed Clinical Veterinary Social Worker. The primary motivation is to help animals whose owners faced euthanasia decisions due to cost. The ideal candidate can confidently handle challenging medical and surgical cases independently, utilizing sound reasoning and experience. There is an opportunity to contribute to shaping this new concept in affordable care.
