About The Position

The Orange County Department of Social Services has an opening for a Community Social Services Technician in the Child Welfare division. The work involves the responsibility for assisting and providing intervention to individuals which will include adults, children, and families. An employee in this class is responsible for providing transportation and supporting individuals served in Child Welfare programs. This position will support the work of the Child Welfare division by performing data entry, and other administrative duties. This position will require the ability to work independently and in a team setting. The ideal candidate for this position has strong communication, organization, and computer skills. Work is performed under the general supervision of a unit supervisor or program coordinator with some leeway to exercise independent judgment with regular guidance. Supervision is not a responsibility of this class. Does related work as required. Hiring range is based on the Orange County Social Services Step Plan. The Step Plan is based on years of Community Social Services Technician experience. Full credit is given for years of experience performing the same job functions. Partial credit is given for years of experience performing related job functions. The top half of the scale is reserved for career employees with senior level experience in the same role. This is a safety sensitive position and participation in the Drug and Alcohol Program is required. SBI background check with fingerprinting is required. Requirements

  • Possession of a High School or General Educational Development (GED) test equivalency
  • One (1) year of work experience in human services.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a license valid in the State of North Carolina for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
  • Successful clearance of an SBI background check with fingerprinting.
  • Pre-employment drug testing.
  • Schedule flexibility as the hours adapt to program participants’ employment schedules which can vary.
  • Fingerprinting and a criminal history background check.

Responsibilities
