About The Position

This position is responsible for connecting residents and nonprofit partners with the Division of Community Services. This position’s main role will be in developing and executing marketing and outreach strategies to increase awareness and utilization of programs within the Division of Community Services, as well as developing and executing programs that serve the community and targeted populations. They will also be responsible for fostering a sustained, reciprocal relationship between the essential nonprofit sector and Shelby County government. This position will be charged with strategically developing new systems and resources that support and respond to the needs of the nonprofit sector, improve public sector engagement and alignment, and be a front door to the nonprofit community.

Requirements

  • 6 years’ work experience in community outreach, communications, nonprofit sector, or related programming.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in public or business administration, management, human services, or related field, OR equivalent experience.
  • PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.

  • Ability to speak and write in Spanish preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Leads the strategic direction for community engagement and outreach.
  • Establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with community partners, nonprofits, organizations, government entities and stakeholders.
  • Work closely with the nonprofit sector and philanthropic community to understand needs and opportunities.
  • Convene nonprofits across Art and Culture, Youth and Education, and Health and Community Services sectors.
  • Conduct outreach activities which promote the services of the DCS.
  • Assist in developing outreach strategies for the community, service providers and targeted populations.
  • Create and coordinate the creation of promotional materials for various audiences to support DCS including social media posts and the Division newsletter.
  • Represent DCS and SCG in internal and external promotional events.
  • Train other members of the team on outreach strategies and activities.
  • Work with community partners to promote the dissemination of information regarding DCS services and those of community partners.
  • Develops and oversees outreach efforts based on data and outreach tracking, including print, social media, community events, online forums, and public relations.
  • Oversee the facilitation of internal communication coordination to ensure that the Division’s outreach efforts and branding communicate high standards, high performance, and cohesion within the Division.
  • Determines resource needs, allocates resources, and accounts for their effective use.
  • Establishes and maintains collaborative relationships internally with staff and management and externally with community agencies, organizations and stakeholders.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or directed.
