About The Position

Under the direction of the Community Services Director or his/her designee, assists, plans, organizes, implements, and evaluates programs, activities, and special events for families, adults, youth, and seniors.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of: Operations of recreation, senior, adult and youth programs, community-wide special events, volunteer programs, and general community service programs; budget preparation and monitoring; research and report writing techniques; English grammar, spelling, and composition; Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel, and database applications.
  • Ability to: Communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing; exercise good judgment, courtesy, and tact with staff and public; assess the needs of the community and assist in the development of programs to meet those needs; establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public, community groups, and staff; effectively train and supervise subordinates; demonstrate effective analytical skills; utilize quality customer service skills and techniques; work nights and weekends.
  • Two years of responsible recreation experience with a public or private recreation agency including supervisory experience is required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Recreation, Public Administration, Business Administration, Education, Physical Education, or a related field from an accredited college or university is required.
  • Possession of a valid California Driver License is required.
  • Possession of a valid CPR, AED, and First Aid certificate is required within one month of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Second language speaking skills in Spanish or Korean is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, develops, coordinates, and evaluates Community Services programming within assigned program areas.
  • Oversees general program areas which include but are not limited to: Senior services, classes for older adults, social services, community events, and volunteers.
  • Schedules, assigns, trains, evaluates, supervises staff and volunteers.
  • Develops and coordinates program publicity through use of websites, social media, flyers, brochures, news releases, and other media.
  • Plans, implements, and monitors budget expenditures and revenues pertaining to assigned program areas.
  • Purchases and maintains supplies for Community Services programs.
  • Maintains a network of communication with various social services and recreation agencies.
  • Assists as staff liaison for commissions, committees and community programs.
  • Performs research, prepare reports and make program recommendations.
  • Adheres to City and departmental policies and procedures; performs related duties as required or assigned.
