About The Position

This position will provide general support to various services in the Community and Family Services setting of a Ministry Unit. The Salvation Army has served people in need in communities across Canada and Bermuda for more than 130 years. Building on its roots as a world-wide Christian church, each year it helps more than 2 million people, providing necessities such as food, clothing and shelter. In addition, it supports people experiencing unemployment, addiction and family challenges. Requirements

  • Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Completion of some high school coursework is required.
  • CPR, First Aid and Non-Violent Crisis Training or willingness to complete once hired.
  • Ability and willingness to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check screening.
  • One year of related experience.
  • Maintain and promote a positive image of The Salvation Army by providing a high caliber of services and dealing with others in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Strong sense of integrity and confidentiality with professional ethics and a balanced sense of fairness and flexibility.
  • Good team player.
  • Organized and attentive to details.

Responsibilities

  • As directed, support pre-planned program activities for the community (food bank, crafts, sports, games, music, homework stations, Bible-based devotions, community church, meetings etc.).
  • Work in a team setting supporting various tasks and activities.
  • Provide general administrative support greeting visitors, supporting reception, forwarding visitors, etc.
  • Provide general assistance during public relations events and regular campaigns.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of all matters pertaining to the program participants.
  • Adhere to policies and procedures relating to the programs.
  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned.
