About The Position

Under general supervision, Community Service Officers are responsible for developing, implementing, and managing a variety of community service programs and initiatives. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, identifying and addressing community concerns and needs related to public safety. They assist patrol officers in activities and tasks other than criminal enforcement, respond to non-emergency calls for service, and investigate, document, and resolve citizen complaints, traffic incidents, crimes, and illegal activities. Officers respond to citizens' requests for assistance and enforce minor traffic/parking violations fairly and consistently. They investigate minor criminal offenses, secure evidence, and complete detailed reports and required paperwork. The role involves maintaining OPD vehicles and equipment according to Department standards, upholding the integrity, professionalism, values, and goals of the Odessa Police Department by ensuring rules and regulations are followed and that accountability and public trust are preserved. Additionally, they assist law enforcement officers and crime scene unit technicians, attend community events and interact with residents, perform parking enforcement, distribute public safety materials, provide case information and explain the criminal justice system, offer assistance within the scope of designated authority, and address community organizations and citizen groups to explain OPD crime prevention programs. The position requires supporting departmental operations with regular and timely attendance and fostering a positive relationship between the City of Odessa and the general public through courteous and cooperative behavior. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Satisfactory results on a background investigation and polygraph are required.
  • A valid State Driver's License is required.
