About The Position

Join the Medford Police Department as a Community Engagement Officer and make a difference! In this highly visible role, you will coordinate and support department volunteers, serve as a key liaison with Neighborhood Watch and other community groups, and assist with City-sponsored events and police outreach activities. You will help organize community service efforts, build positive relationships, and communicate effectively with residents, partners, and department staff. Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or GED equivalent
  • Must be 18 years of age by date of hire with no felony convictions
  • Possession of a valid driver's license by date of hire
  • Successful completion of a comprehensive background investigation

Responsibilities

  • Provides non-sworn staff support to the Police Department on a wide variety of programs, projects, and services.
  • Coordinates with other City departments (e.g., Community Development) on code-related issues.
  • Enforces and ensures compliance with a variety of federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations related to nuisance abatement; writes warnings and citations as necessary; schedules follow-up inspections.
  • Assists sworn officers in traffic control, crowd control, and traffic collisions as required.
  • Assists School Resource Officers with student body and school campus related issues in cooperation with Medford School District staff.
  • Prepares police reports and other documentation for dissemination to appropriate departments and/or external agencies.
  • Handles basic evidence collection as required.
  • Ensures that police reports and other related documentation are submitted in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate community resources to assist citizens as needed.
  • Must have the ability to effectively interact and diffuse situations involving angry or irate members of the public.
  • Attend community stakeholder meetings.
  • Utilize evidence-based practices to find creative solutions to address community problems.
  • Assisting in the execution of City sponsored events such as the annual Pear Blossom festival.
  • Being a liaison with Neighborhood Watch and other community groups to facilitate relationships between the community and the department.
  • Planning, organizing, and executing community service activities and events.
  • Managing and assigning work of department volunteers to include daily tasks, schedules, communication, and coordination.
