About The Position

The City of Beloit Police Department is seeking a committed individual for the position of Community Service Officer/Animal Control. This role offers a valuable opportunity for those interested in a future law enforcement career. The position involves performing a variety of field and support duties, including routine non-critical public safety and clerical tasks, enforcing municipal parking ordinances, maintaining official records, responding to citizen service requests, and engaging in community policing and traffic control activities. A key responsibility is the enforcement of state and local laws concerning the humane treatment of animals, which includes animal apprehension, rescue, and control to ensure citizen safety and animal welfare. The role is assigned to field services, parades, property control, community services, animal control, crime scenes, and traffic control. This is a non-sworn position with no arrest powers and requires working a flexible, rotating shift, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Requirements

Must be at least 18 years of age.
Must possess a valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record.
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Must possess a Humane Officer Certification through the State of Wisconsin or have the ability to obtain certification within 1 year of hire and maintain such certification, including required training or statutory requirements.
Transaction Information for Management of Enforcement (TIME) certification or the ability to obtain said certification within 1 year of hire and maintain such certification.

Nice To Haves

Post-high-school education in a criminal justice or law enforcement degree program at an accredited college or university.
Experience working with animals.

Responsibilities
