About The Position

This is a Federal Work-Study (FWS) internship position at Dallas Free Press, designed for undergraduate students who have been awarded FWS funds. The intern will assist with program planning, coordination, and implementation for community outreach events and services. Responsibilities include administrative tasks, client support, volunteer coordination, research, marketing assistance, and participation in community events. The role emphasizes maintaining confidentiality and completing required professional development training. This position offers students the opportunity to develop practical skills in non-profit management, community engagement, and public service, while gaining exposure to diverse populations and social issues.

Requirements

  • Must be an undergraduate student awarded Federal Work-Study funds through FAFSA.
  • Must meet the Satisfactory Academic Progress standards set by Dallas College.
  • Enrolled in at least 6 credit hours (half-time) during Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or eligible noncitizen.
  • No outstanding institutional balances or registration blocks.
  • Must have reliable transportation to off-campus worksites (if applicable).
  • Completion of required Dallas College professional development training.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with program planning, coordination, and implementation for community outreach events or services.
  • Perform administrative tasks such as data entry, filing, scheduling, and preparing correspondence.
  • Support client services, which may include answering phones, directing inquiries, or assisting with intake processes.
  • Help with volunteer recruitment, training, and coordination.
  • Conduct research or gather information pertinent to the organization's mission.
  • Assist with marketing and communication efforts, including social media updates or newsletter creation.
  • Participate in community events, workshops, or service projects as needed.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information and adhere to organizational policies.
  • Completes required Dallas College Professional Development training hours per academic year.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
