About The Position

This position involves transporting, supervising, and monitoring probationers, parolees, and others subject to court-ordered community service. The role ensures compliance with program rules and aims to reduce the likelihood of participants engaging in future criminal conduct. Coordinators utilize community service projects to address participants' needs for vocational training, skill-building, and pro-social development. The position requires travel to multiple court locations across Region 5. The incumbent works under the direction of a Department Head or their designee.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalency
  • Two (2) year of related work experience
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered for meeting minimum qualifications.
  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Word and Excel)
  • Knowledge of procedures and practices for supervising participants.
  • Knowledge of cognitive behavior and substance disorders.
  • Skill in crisis intervention and conflict resolution.
  • Skill in promoting pro-social participation and interaction.
  • Skill in leadership.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to learn Departmental and court policies and procedures.
  • Ability to learn Court procedures related to community service.
  • Ability to organize and manage time effectively.
  • Ability to prepare clear and accurate reports.
  • Ability to maintain appropriate records.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work independently and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to become/Maintain CPR/AED/Bloodborne certified and learn other First Aid skills.
  • Ability to maintain a valid Massachusetts Driver’s License, ability to drive and operate a 15-passenger vehicle, and travel to locations throughout the Commonwealth.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Transports, supervises, and monitors program participants in the performance of community service, and provides instruction to participants on project objectives, goals, and tasks.
  • Records and tracks statistics of community service participants.
  • Performs evaluations of participants on their compliance with behavioral standards, making record of anti-social behaviors.
  • Engages with local and state government and community non-profits in the development of community service partnerships.
  • De-escalates conflicts and redirect interactions between participants, members of the public, and others.
  • Responds to incidents in the field, notifies Statewide Supervisor, and prepares incident reports summarizing the facts.
  • Develops community service work projects at various locations.
  • Informs probation and parole officers of OCC rule violations and other compliance issues.
  • Maintains up to date records and information on community service performed.
  • Acts as liaison with persons and agencies within and outside the court.
  • Monitor safety procedures in the operation of tools and equipment.
  • Responds to participant medical issues and performs first aid as needed.
  • Responsible for maintaining fleet vehicles, inventory of tools, and consumables such as medical supplies.
  • Performs other duties as required.

  • Entry level rate for this role per the collective bargaining agreement/MOA with OPEIU, Local 6.
  • Pay may advance within the salary band according to the CBA/MOU.
