About The Position

The Community Schools Manager provides wrap-around & social service support to students and their families within the Tumwater School District. This role implements and manages a Community Schools model through school-and-community-based outreach, youth mentorship and family case management. This role works collaboratively with school partners and local organizations to close the opportunity gaps in education, health, and overall well-being for students and families in Tumwater schools. The Community Schools Program operates through the academic year and summer break to provide community outreach and case management support year round. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in health science, Community Health, Education, Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, or closely related field required. This requirement may be waived for individuals with 4+ years of youth or family case management, social service or education experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience working with high school aged students or young adults.
  • Experience in building/maintaining partnerships between community organizations and community coalitions working toward a common goal.
  • Experience working autonomously with a high-level of self-direction and follow-through.
  • CPR/First Aid certification
  • Food Worker Card
  • Valid WA State Drivers License and auto-liability insurance
  • Foundational organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and perform effectively in a dynamic environment.
  • Foundational written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate clearly, professionally, and effectively with staff, partners, stakeholders, and program participants.
  • Foundational understanding of workplace professionalism and non-discrimination practices, including appropriate handling of sensitive or personnel-related matters and adherence to equitable workplace standards.
  • Foundational professional conflict management skills, including the ability to navigate disagreements respectfully, maintain professionalism in high-stress situations, and escalate concerns appropriately when necessary.
  • High level of independence and self-direction, with strong follow-through, accountability, and the ability to contribute effectively within a collaborative team environment.
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office and general computer applications, with the ability to quickly learn, adapt to, and effectively utilize new systems and technologies.
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, and systems change, with an understanding of systemic oppression and structural inequities and the ability to apply this awareness in professional practice.
  • Ability to represent TOGETHER! professionally, contributing positively to relationships with partners, stakeholders, community members, and program participants while upholding the organization’s mission and values.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with case management models related to family, youth, and/or community.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish verbal, written and reading fluency.
  • Experience in homelessness prevention and/or supporting populations experiencing unstable housing, particularly through the McKinney-Vento Act.
  • Knowledge, training, education and/or lived experience in trauma-informed care, adverse childhood experiences and youth mental health.
  • Experience with direct client services and mobile community outreach.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with school staff, youth, families, community members and partner agencies to support students’ academic success and overall well-being. Develop and nurture relationships with these sectors.
  • Create school needs assessment and plan with school leadership and counselors. Design services or supports around the plan.
  • Provide services that are needs-driven, human-centered and in adherence with the Community Schools Model, including but not limited to expanded learning opportunities, health services, parent/family engagement, adult education, direct material assistance and interventions targeted to low-income, homeless and/or chronically absent students.
  • Assist students and families with essential basic needs supports, to include; housing instability, eviction prevention, health or government assistance navigation, food insecurity, referrals to community organizations, and resource transportation.
  • Leverage, develop, and strengthen programs that increase educational opportunities and social connections for families and students, provided through the school or community partners.
  • Manage a caseload of 40-50 students at Tumwater High School. Use the TOGETHER! in-take, provide follow up support and update data tracking systems for student progress and other reporting requirements.
  • Assist Spanish-speaking students and families with school and systems navigation. (if applicable)
  • Co-manage AmeriCorps service members, interns, and volunteers assigned to serve at this program site. Participate in volunteer-recruitment efforts for site’s program needs. (if applicable)
  • Independently manage a Community Resource Center in assigned program service building(s). Generate support from school clubs, community partners and local donors to keep the center stocked.
  • Serve as the point-person for agencies and programs interested in partnering with the assigned school to help facilitate and broker new community partnerships who align with the school’s goals and needs.
  • Participate in school-student intervention teams to offer individualized case management services rooted from a community-based approach.
  • Responsible for required community assessments, data collection, reports, program-wide initiatives, adherence to the Community Schools model.
  • Other duties as assigned, including performing own administrative work.
  • Attend agency training sessions and staff meetings.
  • Represent TOGETHER! and the Community Schools Program at events
  • Ensure implementation of policies adopted by TOGETHER!’s Board of Directors.
  • Follow the TOGETHER! Employed Personnel Policies.
  • Regular travel in personal vehicle between program/partner sites in Tumwater School District, TOGETHER!’s Headquarters office, and various points of contact in Thurston County.
