About The Position

This position exists to monitor surveillance cameras for suspicious or unusual activity and to dispatch Community Safety Ambassadors as needed. The role also involves receiving and responding to community calls related to low-level safety concerns. This position is temporary for 2026 and could become a permanent position in 2027. The City of Minneapolis does not sponsor applicants for work visas.

Requirements

  • A High school diploma, GED or equivalent.
  • One year of related work experience.
  • An equivalent combination of education and highly related experience in a similar environment may be considered.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to accurately follow instructions.
  • Skilled in interacting with the public and stakeholders courteously and tactfully, even in high-pressure situations.
  • Familiarity with standard office methods, procedures, and equipment.
  • Proficient in using computers and relevant software systems.
  • Knowledge of trespass ordinances and applicable laws.
  • Understanding of monitoring systems, including recording, playback, and related procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor work zones using CCTV and centralized camera systems to detect suspicious or unusual activity.
  • Dispatch uniformed Community Safety Ambassadors to respond to incidents or assist as needed, following established procedures.
  • Serve as a point of contact for the public, business owners, residents, and City staff via phone and radio communication.
  • Relay information between Community Safety Ambassadors, internal departments, and external stakeholders.
  • Operate two-way radios, pagers, and radio base stations to support communication and coordination.
  • Enter, retrieve, and maintain security-related data using computer systems.
  • Maintain electronic records and archives of relevant information.
  • Monitor inventory of supplies and equipment, and notify supervisory staff when repair or replenishment is needed.
  • Perform general office tasks and administrative support as assigned.
