About The Position

This position serves as a Campus Security Authority and, in a non-clinical role, is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of the residence halls and students residing on the campus. This is done through enacting various role responsibilities, including ambulatory rounds of University Housing, providing direct student support for mental and physical well-being concerns, conflict mediation and de-escalation, and enforcing policies found in the University Housing Contract and Community Standards. The incumbent will collaborate with Residence Life staff and many campus partners, including the Dean of Students office, University Counseling Services, and the University of Oregon Police Department. The Community Safety and Crisis Response Coordinator position is an essential personnel and must report to work during emergencies. The position is live-off; no on-campus or campus-adjacent residence is provided or expected. Community Safety and Crisis Response Coordinators serve in the Residential Living sub-unit of Residence Life and are in the supervisory line of the Associate Director of Residence Life for Accountability and Residential Living. This is a renewable 12-month position that operates year-round, including academic terms and university break periods. The Community Safety and Crisis Response Coordinator is an Officer of Administration position that works a 1.0 FTE as part of a rotating on-call schedule. Outside of stated on-call hours, Community Safety and Crisis Response Coordinators will be required to attend regular trainings, team meetings, and supervision check-ins. The schedule for these items will be set prior to the start of each term. Currently enrolled University of Oregon undergraduate students are not permitted to apply for this staff position. Essential Personnel: This position requires that the employee make every reasonable effort to arrive at campus at their regularly scheduled times during inclement weather and/or university closures unless otherwise notified by their supervisor or manager. This includes times when the university may be closed. Essential personnel must provide reliable and current contact information at all times.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma + 1-year professional experience in security, crisis response, or human services.
  • Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice, Emergency Management, Psychology, or related field.
  • Ability to foster a socially just, multicultural, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Knowledge of student development theory and its application in a residential environment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with colleagues.
  • Ability to assess and meet the needs of a wide variety of people while recognizing the needs of underrepresented and underserved students at the University of Oregon.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, Conflict Resolution, or Emergency Management
  • 2+ years of experience in a higher education residential setting with a focus on student conduct or mental health response.
