About The Position

To represent the Governor in issues involving DOT and to provide leadership as the department strives to be a transparent, efficient and accountable institution in which safety, performance management and customer satisfaction are of highest priority. This is the third level in the series responsible for overseeing and coordinating public relations and outreach within the Department. Responsibilities include but are not limited to creating necessary materials to improve public outreach and help address constituent inquiries. Work directly with constituents in-person, via email, at events and over the phone resolving their concerns, answering questions and providing necessary guidance. Work directly with various DelDOT sections to draft, create and publish traffic and construction related messaging to keep public alert and informed. Interact with community partners, contractors, legislators and other community groups and organizations to ensure messaging is reaching the public. Plan, execute and attend internal and external events as well as public information sessions, some of which may occur during evening and weekend hours. Customer service, public speaking and writing for numerous situations are required.

Requirements

  • Three years experience in public relations or media relations to establish and promote a positive image and inform or influence specific audiences through the use of internal and external communications such as public forums, print or electronic media, speech writing, writing/editing, marketing, advertising, or special events.
  • Three years experience in gathering, organizing, formatting, translating, or interpreting information into forms more easily understood by the media or public, and disseminating the information through the use of print, broadcast or electronic media.
  • Three years experience in public speaking which includes gathering, preparing and presenting information to the public or media groups.
  • Six months experience in developing, planning and directing public events, campaigns, programs, or services to meet community needs.
  • Six months experience in determining and evaluating alternative courses of action to resolve or mitigate controversial issues.
  • Six months experience in developing policies, procedures or programs for dissemination of information to the public or media groups.

  • May supervise staff.
