About The Position

The Arc of the Ozarks is seeking a Community Registered Nurse (RN) to provide nursing care, clinical guidance, education, and oversight for individuals with developmental disabilities. This role offers a unique nursing career outside of traditional hospital or long-term care settings, focusing on helping people live healthier, safer, and more independent lives. The Community RN will build meaningful relationships and make a lasting difference in the lives of the individuals they support, coordinating care, monitoring health needs, and providing clinical guidance to ensure appropriate care and support for staff.

Requirements

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license and registration in the State of Missouri.
• Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form.
• Ability to accurately report and document observations.
• Ability to exercise good judgment and discretion.
• Ability to work respectfully with individuals with disabilities and advocate for their rights.
• Ability to learn and apply crisis intervention and behavior support techniques.
• Ability to administer oral, rectal, vaginal, optic, ophthalmic, nasal, topical medications and insulin injections.
• Ability to teach basic skills and model adaptive behaviors at home and in the community.
• Ability to maintain a safe, clean, and agreeable environment for the persons served.
• Ability to stand, stoop, lift up to 50 pounds, and push and pull items.
• Ability to maintain a record of punctuality and attendance.

Nice To Haves

• At least three years of experience providing nursing services in a hospital, long-term care, community health facility, or similar setting.
• Previous experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities.
• Experience providing staff education, training, or clinical oversight.

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing assessment, nursing diagnosis, nursing care, and counseling for individuals who are ill, injured, or experiencing changes in their health.
• Conduct monthly assessments to evaluate health concerns and identify changes in health status.
• Coordinate and assist with the delivery of health care plans with members of each individual's support team.
• Monitor the application of physicians' orders, including treatments, procedures, laboratory work, appointments, specialized diets, and adaptive equipment.
• Monitor and document changes in health status, needs, and identified concerns.
• Serve as a liaison between physicians, medical professionals, individuals, families/guardians, and Arc staff.
• Oversee medication administration by certified Medication Aides, including review of physician orders, medication administration records, staff documentation, technique, and medication storage.
• Oversee delegated nursing tasks performed by direct support staff, ensuring appropriate education, training, and competency.
• Provide medication administration instruction in accordance with Missouri Department of Mental Health guidelines.
• Conduct specialized training and certifications for direct support staff based on the medical needs of individuals (e.g., insulin, catheter, feeding tube care).
• Provide direction, training, and oversight of medical practices and procedures conducted by Arc staff.
• Educate staff, individuals, and families about health care and illness prevention.
• Conduct periodic visits to programs and residences to review medical records and monitor medical practices.
• Complete required nursing documentation and records.
• Support quality-control activities related to nursing care and delegated services.
• Communicate with agency management and support teams regarding medical needs and appropriate treatment.
• Administer medications and insulin injections as required.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and supportive environment for the individuals served.
• Establish positive relationships with individuals, families/guardians, Direct Support Professionals, and other members of the support team.
• Remain open to feedback and demonstrate a willingness to learn and grow.
• Support a positive workplace culture.
• Maintain reliable attendance and punctuality.
• Adapt to changes in assignments, methods, and policies.
• Successfully complete required CPR, First Aid, and Behavior Intervention training.
• Conduct periodic screenings for tardive dyskinesia and other observed side effects as a result of psychotropic medication.
• Inspect and evaluate all adaptive equipment and protective devices prescribed for the persons served.
