About The Position

The Community Recreation Center Attendant is the welcoming, responsible presence on site during each shift. This person represents the Edmundite Missions to every visitor and makes sure the Center is a safe, clean, and dignified space for all who enter. The Attendant may lead activities directly or oversee activities run by volunteers, partners, or other staff. Success in this role depends on proactive thinking, calm crowd management, and steady attention to service and detail.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Availability to work day, evening, and weekend shifts, including some holidays.
  • Strong people skills and the ability to stay calm, firm, and respectful in tense situations.
  • Ability to follow cleaning checklists and safety procedures with care.
  • Basic computer skills for check-in, logs, and email.
  • Willingness to support the mission and values of the Edmundite Missions.
  • Ability to pass a background check.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in recreation, youth programs, community centers, customer service, or security.
  • CPR, First Aid, and AED certification, or willingness to obtain it within [30] days of hire.
  • Experience leading sports, fitness, or computer activities.
  • Conflict resolution or de-escalation training.

Responsibilities

  • Greet every visitor warmly and treat each person with dignity and respect.
  • Represent the Edmundite Missions professionally in conduct, speech, and appearance.
  • Check visitors in, answer questions, and explain Center rules, hours, and programs.
  • Respond to concerns with patience and good judgment, and pass issues to the supervisor when needed.
  • Monitor all areas of the Center throughout the shift, including the weight room, computer room, community room, and basketball court.
  • Enforce Center rules and the code of conduct fairly and consistently.
  • Manage crowds, wait lists, and court time during busy periods so everyone has a fair turn.
  • Recognize rising tension early and calmly de-escalate conflicts.
  • Respond to injuries and emergencies, follow emergency procedures, and contact emergency services when necessary.
  • Complete incident reports accurately and on time.
  • Open and close the facility, including securing doors, equipment, and rooms.
  • Implement scheduled activities such as open gym, pickup games, leagues, fitness sessions, computer lab hours, and community room events.
  • Oversee activities led by volunteers, partner groups, or renters, and confirm rooms are set up and returned in good order.
  • Supervise proper use of weight room and computer equipment.
  • Suggest new activities based on what visitors enjoy and need.
  • Clean and sanitize equipment, surfaces, restrooms, and common areas according to the daily checklist.
  • Sweep and dust-mop the basketball court and keep floors free of hazards.
  • Set up and break down tables, chairs, and equipment for programs and events.
  • Inspect equipment and spaces, and report damage, maintenance needs, or low supplies right away.
  • Anticipate problems before they happen, such as overcrowding, spills, or worn equipment.
  • Keep accurate attendance logs, shift notes, and supply records.
  • Communicate clearly with the supervisor and incoming staff at shift change.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of the mission.
