About The Position

This is an "Outcome in a Day" campaign, offering a chance to visit an Unpaid Work site, understand the role of a Community Payback Supervisor, and potentially receive interview feedback on the same day. Successful candidates will be contacted the following week with more details. The role involves supervising groups of offenders serving community sentences, ensuring they complete practical tasks that serve as a credible punishment and provide reparation to the community. This is a physical role requiring appropriate authority to maintain discipline and good behavior within working groups. The work may involve collaboration with volunteers or partner organizations. A full UK manual driving license is mandatory for transporting service vehicles, people, or equipment. The role offers the opportunity to make a positive impact on People on Probation and the community, with potential for annual pay progression through a Competency Based Framework (CBF). New entrants start at the minimum of the pay band, with annual pay band increases in line with Civil Service guidance. The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) offers hybrid working arrangements where business needs allow, blending work from a base location, other MoJ sites, and/or home. Standard full-time hours are 37 per week, excluding unpaid breaks. The MoJ also welcomes part-time, flexible, and job-sharing arrangements.

Requirements

• Must hold a full UK Manual Driving Licence.
• Excellent people and communication skills.
• Confidence to lead, motivate, and supervise groups.
• Ability to drive Community Payback minibuses, transport equipment, and travel to project sites.
• Right to work in the UK.
• Must have held a Skilled Worker visa prior to July 22, 2025, to be eligible for sponsorship under new immigration rules (if applicable).

Nice To Haves

• Practical skills or experience in areas such as painting and decorating, carpentry, gardening, grounds maintenance, construction, landscaping, or general maintenance.
• Experience drawn from any setting, including employment, the Armed Forces, voluntary work, education, community projects, construction, maintenance, landscaping, or other relevant activities.

Responsibilities

• Supervise work groups of offenders serving a community sentence.
• Exercise appropriate authority to maintain discipline and good behavior within working groups.
• Alert relevant staff to any infringement of discipline or behavior.
• Work alongside volunteers or staff from partner organizations.
• Drive service vehicles to transport people or equipment.
• Be responsible for all work site supervision tasks.
• Work with service users to ensure all tasks are carried out to the best of their ability.
• Demonstrate good practice as necessary.
• Supervise and motivate small teams to complete unpaid work hours.
• Lead teams to complete a range of manual tasks such as clearing overgrowth, restoring community facilities, planting trees, laying flowerbeds, litter picking, and graffiti removal.
