About The Position

This role is based in East Kent (Ashford or Ramsgate), with full and part-time options available. The position requires a fixed base location with an expectation of travel to other offices within the Region, for which a travel allowance will be provided. The role demands a flexible approach with start times from 7:00 AM and finish times up to 4:45 PM, including weekend shifts. A typical full-time 37-hour week involves 4 days of 9.25 hours, including at least one weekend day. This is an operational role directly supervising work groups of offenders serving a community sentence, which may involve driving service vehicles. The post holder will be responsible for all work site supervision tasks and will work with service users to ensure tasks are carried out to the best of their ability, including demonstrating good practice. The Probation Service offers opportunities for annual pay progression through a Competency Based Framework (CBF) and annual pay band increases. The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) offers Hybrid Working arrangements where business needs allow, blending work from a base location, other MoJ sites, and/or home. This role can only be worked in the UK.

Requirements

Must hold a full UK Manual Driving Licence (mandatory technical requirement). Automatic driving licences only are not accepted.
Excellent people and communication skills.
Confidence to lead, motivate, and supervise groups.
Must have the right to work in the UK.
Must be available for the full day assessment event on Wednesday 4th November 2026.

Responsibilities

Supervising a group at a Community Payback unpaid work placement for up to 7 hours on a typical day.
Undertaking weekend working as part of the normal pattern of working.
Leading small teams to complete their unpaid work hours.
Supervising and motivating individuals to complete a range of manual tasks.
Tasks may include clearing overgrowth, restoring community facilities, planting trees, laying flowerbeds, litter picking, and graffiti removal.
Driving service vehicles to transport people or equipment.
Responsible for all work site supervision tasks.
Working with service users to ensure tasks are carried out to the best of their ability.
Demonstrating good practice as necessary.
