About The Position

This position is only open to Colorado state residents. This posting may be used to fill future vacancies at this location. The division is responsible to manage statutorily mandated community corrections and adult parole and YOS programs to include residential community corrections programs, nonresidential community corrections (ISP inmate), aftercare for the Youthful Offender Systems, Intensive Supervision Program for parolees and the regular parole supervision system for adult offenders released to parole supervision and the management of the Interstate Compact. Under direction and supervision, the primary duties and responsibilities will include reviewing case file materials, preparing and posting wanted notices, completing criminal case filings, and conducting searches in various law enforcement databases to determine possible locations of individual fugitives. The role involves writing reports of investigation, after action reports, affidavits for new charges, and other documents related to offender apprehension. The officer will share intelligence and activity information, disseminate case-related information on high-risk offenders, and utilize various computer systems and databases. All fugitive apprehension activities will be documented in the offender’s chronological record database. A significant portion of the time will be spent in the field, contacting family, friends, employers, and neighbors of fugitives. The position requires immediate response to tips about fugitive locations, conducting searches per state statute and case law, surveillance activities on high-risk/high-profile fugitive cases, and making arrests and transporting fugitives. The officer will serve as a liaison with federal, state, and municipal law enforcement agencies, determine probable cause for criminal charges, and file charges on absconding inmates and parolees. The role also includes responding to incidents and emergencies, maintaining proficiency in firearms, arrest control techniques, CPR, and first aid, and understanding use of force policies. The position functions as a PEACE Officer, making arrests and transporting parolees.

Requirements

• Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree.
• A combination of coursework and professional work experience in criminal justice, corrections, social work, counseling , equal to four (4) years.
• POST : Applicants MUST possess and maintain a current and valid Colorado P.O.S.T. (Peace Officer Standards Training) certification.
• Must be at least 21 years of age
• Possess a valid and unrestricted driver's license
• Have no felony convictions or domestic violence history
• Ability to read and comprehend the English language
• Ability to effectively communicate fluently in English both verbally and in writing
• Ability to create accessible documents and technical content that follows plain language guidelines with accessibility in mind
• Must have valid U.S. work authorization at the time of application
• Successfully pass all modules of the six-week Colorado Department of Corrections Basic Training, to include English reading comprehension , relevant competency assessments and written/practical exams in Defensive Tactics
• Possess the physical ability to successfully complete Defensive Tactics
• Lift arms above head and kick as high as own waist
• Stabilize another person to accomplish a controlled take down
• Use arms, palms of hands, shins, and feet to deliver blows
• Withstand impact (slow speed or with a safety bag) on own body from strikes/blows
• Swing a baton in a striking technique
• Rotate body 90 degrees with feet planted for striking with foot or using a defensive tactic
• Get down on one or both knees and up again with multiple repetitions
• Must be able to see and hear in order to observe, address and respond to potential breaches in safety and security
• Seize, hold, control or subdue violent or assaultive persons and defend oneself or others to prevent injury
• Demonstrate body agility, strength of all four limbs and the ability to walk and climb stairs consistently
• Work in situations involving assaultive behavior, physical control of another person and/or restraint situations
• Deal with individuals with a range of moods and behaviors, utilizing tactfulness and a congenial, personable manner
• Work with people of the opposite sex, diverse racial ethnic groups, mentally ill and emotionally disturbed offenders
• Communicate by talking, listening and/or signaling people to convey or exchange information, assignments
• Work in an environment with fluctuating noise and temperature (hot and cold) which may include working outdoors in inclement weather and/or concrete floor/wall work settings
• Willing and able to travel
• Willing and able to work various shifts, days, afternoons, graveyards (nights) which includes a rotating shift schedule
• TB (tuberculosis) screening is required of all new employees upon hire
• Successful completion of a background investigation is required.

Responsibilities

• Review case file materials, prepares and posts wanted notices in CWISE, completes criminal case filings when appropriate and conducts searches in various law enforcement data bases in order to determine possible locations of the individual fugitives
• Write reports of investigation, after action reports, affidavits for new charges, and other documents related to the apprehension of the offender
• Share intelligence and activity information and disseminates case related information on high risk offenders
• Utilize various computer systems and databases
• Document all fugitive apprehension activities (both in-office and field) in the offender’s chronological record database
• Spend the majority of the time in the field - contacting family, friends, employers, and neighbors of the fugitives they are attempting to locate
• Respond immediately to tips about the location of fugitives and therefore is expected to respond to the field with minimal delay
• Conduct searches per state statute and case law
• Conduct surveillance activities on certain high risk /high profile fugitive cases
• Make arrests and transports fugitives to local county jails and/or correctional facilities
• Serve as a liaison with federal, state, and municipal law enforcement agencies by coordinating law enforcement/investigative efforts
• Determine when probable cause exists to file criminal charges by gathering evidence to obtain arrest warrant
• File criminal charges on inmates and parolees who abscond from the custody of the Department of Corrections
• Respond to incidents, emergencies which may/could include assisting agency personnel in emergency situations
• Maintain proficiency in the use of firearms, arrest control techniques, CPR, and first aid
• Maintain a thorough understanding of use of force compliance with certification according to State Statue and Department of Corrections policy
• Function as a PEACE Officer and will make arrests and transport parolees
• Perform other job related duties as assigned or required
