About The Position

Medavie Health Services West (MHSW) is seeking a Community Paramedic (CP) to join their team in Moose Jaw. The CP plays a key role in promoting health and preventing illness, supplementing existing Primary Health Care services. This role is responsible for identifying health needs and risks, developing and implementing health programs, providing direct patient care, and collaborating with other healthcare professionals to improve access to care and health outcomes for youth in the community. As part of the Mobile Integrated Health Team, the Community Paramedic works closely with YMCA Homebase staff and supports a diverse patient population, including youth requiring mental health and addiction services, physical health supports, and coordination of care and community-based services. The CP works collaboratively within an interdisciplinary framework alongside service providers such as Community Mental Health and Addictions, Primary Health Care, Psychiatry, Paramedic Services, justice and victims’ services, child and family services, police services, and other community partners. Requirements

  • Must meet all legislated requirements for licensure in jurisdiction of employment
  • Must be currently registered with the Saskatchewan College of Paramedics as a Primary Care Paramedic or eligible for registration through the Saskatchewan College of Paramedics.
  • Candidates with restricted licenses will be considered, with preference to those with unrestricted licenses.
  • Must be in good standing with the Saskatchewan College of Paramedics.
  • Must submit with resume a copy (front and back) of a valid Saskatchewan Class 4 Driver's License (or equivalent).
  • Must submit with resume a current ITLS and CPR C for Health Care Providers.
  • Must submit with resume a current (within last 60 days) valid and clean criminal record check.
  • Must submit with resume a current (within last 30 days) driver’s abstract.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to work efficiently as a member of the team and possess strong interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to work all shifts as assigned, maintaining a good attendance record.
  • Must have a high regard for confidentiality.
  • Must have excellent work habits and exhibit professionalism
  • Be physically capable of performing the required duties;
  • Proficiency with using electronic medical record system and patient care reporting;
  • English Required

  • Graduation from a recognized Community Paramedic Program or willingness to take training is a requirement
  • Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) training is considered an asset;
  • Core Partner Child Safe Guarding Training mandatory (online training)
  • Suicide risk assessment training is considered an asset
  • Violence risk assessment training is considered asset;
  • Knowledge of computer programs (Microsoft Office Suite & Teams, Google Drive etc.) is considered an asset;
  • French not required but would be an asset

Responsibilities

  • Independent primary clinical care.
  • Maintain and operate ambulances and related equipment in accordance with patient needs and public safety.
  • Clinical expectations and responsibilities for Primary Care Paramedics are based on the current National Occupational Competency Profile (NOCP), the Saskatchewan College of Paramedics registration requirements and Medavie Health Services West policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Provide proof of adequate antibody titers for the following diseases: Diphtheria, Tetanus, Measles, Mumps, German Measles and Hepatitis B. Results of a Mantoux test are also required.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide initial psychological interviews and assessments.
  • Experience on interdisciplinary teams, in program development and extensive case management.
  • Requires independent critical thinking, clinical judgment and independent decision-making skills required to develop, implement, and monitor care plans.
