About The Position

Medavie Health Services West (MHSW) is seeking a Community Paramedic (CP) to provide care to patients in their homes or community settings. This role involves responding to non-emergency calls and conducting regularly scheduled visits. The CP will work independently in a response-capable vehicle, performing advanced assessments, consultations, and treatments. They will utilize critical thinking skills to deliver appropriate care within their scope of practice and collaborate with a team under direct medical oversight. The CP will also identify and coordinate additional healthcare resources needed for patient treatment and act as a liaison with physicians, nurses, and the medical community. The position may also require performing duties of a licensed Paramedic as needed. This is a temporary, part-time vacancy for approximately 3-6 months, with potential for extension or cessation based on administrative arrangements. PCP/ICPs are welcome to apply if they are an endorsed CP or enrolled in the Sask Polytechnic Advanced Certificate of Community Paramedic program.

Requirements

  • Must meet all legislated requirements for Advanced Care Paramedics in Saskatchewan.
  • Must be a registered, active Advanced Care Paramedic with the Saskatchewan College of Paramedics; or eligible for registration through the Saskatchewan College of Paramedics.
  • Must submit with resume a copy (front and back) of a valid Saskatchewan Class 4 Driver's License (or equivalent).
  • Must submit with resume ACLS, ITLS and CPR C for Health Care Providers.
  • Must submit with resume a current (within last 60 days) valid and clean criminal record check, including a vulnerable sector check.
  • Must submit with resume a current (within last 30 days) driver’s abstract.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to work efficiently as a member of the team and possess strong interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to work all shifts as assigned, maintaining a good attendance record.
  • Must have a high regard for confidentiality.
  • Must have excellent work habits and exhibit professionalism.

Nice To Haves

  • PCP/ICPs may apply, but must already be an endorsed CP or enrolled in the Sask Polytechnic Advanced Certificate of Community Paramedic program.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care, incorporating advanced assessment, consultation, and treatment.
  • Execute independent critical thinking skills to deliver appropriate care consistent with scope of practice.
  • Work in a team with direct medical oversight.
  • Determine the most appropriate additional health care resources required for continuing patient treatment.
  • Act as a liaison with physicians, nurses, and the greater medical community in meeting patient needs.
  • Perform duties in relation to their ability and scope as a licensed Paramedic.
  • Provide independent advance clinical care.
  • Provide safe transportation of individuals, including emergency and non-emergency responses, as well as inter-facility transfers.
  • Maintain and operate ambulances and related equipment in accordance with patient needs and public safety.
