About The Position

The Prevention & Outreach Specialist is responsible for implementing a community-based youth and caregiver suicide prevention program across multiple partner sites. This role delivers structured curriculum in community settings, facilitates caregiver workshops, builds partnerships with local organizations, and supports early identification of youth in need of additional services. The position requires a high level of independence, strong facilitation skills, and the ability to effectively teach and engage diverse audiences. The specialist plays a key role in increasing access to prevention education, strengthening protective factors, and connecting individuals to appropriate supports.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, counseling, education, or a related field.
  • Experience working with youth and/or families in a community or behavioral health setting.
  • Demonstrated experience teaching, training, or facilitating groups, workshops, or educational sessions.
  • Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and coordinate activities across multiple community sites.
  • Knowledge of youth development, trauma-informed care, and suicide prevention principles.
  • Strong communication, relationship-building and community engagement skills.
  • Basic Computer Skills including use of PowerPoint, Outlook and SharePoint.
  • Experience in community-based or prevention-focused programming.
  • Familiarity with child welfare, behavioral health, or community systems.
  • Experience working with diverse populations, including kinship and foster families.
  • Strong facilitation and instructional skills.
  • Ability to engage and teach diverse audiences effectively.
  • Ability to work independently and problem-solve in community settings.
  • Cultural responsiveness and community awareness.
  • Organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to recognize signs of distress and respond appropriately.

Responsibilities

  • Independently plan, coordinate, and facilitate structured, developmentally appropriate curriculum sessions for youth ages 10–18 in community-based settings.
  • Deliver caregiver workshops (virtual and in-person) using effective teaching and engagement strategies and adapt curriculum delivery to meet the needs of different age groups (10–13 and 14–18) and learning styles.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with community organizations, including faith-based institutions and youth-serving agencies.
  • Coordinate and participate in community outreach events and presentations.
  • Utilize social media and outreach strategies to promote program participation and increase awareness.
  • Identify youth and caregivers who may benefit from additional support and facilitate referrals to behavioral health and community-based services such as Community Partners for Child Safety. Collaborate with internal Cornerstone programs to support continuity of care when appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate records of participation, outreach activities, and referrals and report program data to support evaluation and grant requirements, meeting all required deadlines.
  • Implement improvements to maintain program quality.
  • Maintain clear and timely communication with all stakeholders.
