About The Position

The Orvis School of Nursing at the University of Nevada, Reno invites applications for a Community Outreach Specialist. The Community Outreach Specialist supports the Orvis School of Nursing StreetReach project team to implement StreetReach outreach activities. The position reports to the Project Coordinator and/or the Director of StreetReach. This position is primarily responsible for conducting community outreach to provide 1-on-1 health education and recruitment into StreetReach services, as well as overdose prevention education and provision of overdose prevention supplies and materials to individuals who are unhoused. Additional duties include: supply maintenance and management, building and maintaining community relations, and making community referrals.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma and (3) three years of related work experience, an Associate’s Degree and (2) years of related work experience, a Bachelor’s Degree and (1) one year of related work experience or a Master’s Degree.
  • Related experience: Previous work experience as an outreach worker, Lived experience with substance use disorder and/or homelessness, or related.
  • A valid Class “C” driver’s license or higher operator’s license within 30 days of appointment.

Responsibilities

  • Conducting community outreach to provide 1-on-1 health education and recruitment into StreetReach services.
  • Providing overdose prevention education and provision of overdose prevention supplies and materials to individuals who are unhoused.
  • Supply maintenance and management.
  • Building and maintaining community relations.
  • Making community referrals.
