About The Position

Camarena Health's Community Outreach Internship program will concentrate on outreach efforts within all of our service areas.   This internship is a paid opportunity, with a commitment of 19 hours per week over a six-month duration. The primary objective of this internship is to provide young professionals with exposure to careers in healthcare and the opportunity to gain valuable experience in public health initiatives. Interns will assume responsibility for engaging in community outreach efforts related to health center services. Intern will have the responsibility of assisting with the planning and participation in community events and also providing support for fundraising initiatives at the health center.

Requirements

  • Passion for giving back to the communities, and most importantly, working with people.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, including strong public speaking skills.
  • Well-spoken, confident, articulate, and people-centric
  • Availability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, in order to accommodate the needs of the role.
  • Availability to travel to all service areas as required by the position. This includes visiting various locations or communities where the Health Center provides services.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to adjust working hours based on the demands of the job and the needs of the community.
  • In the process of obtaining or recent graduate with a Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Social Work, Communications or related field is preferred.
  • Community Outreach of social service preferred.
  • Demonstrate exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to interact well with people from a diverse set of cultures and backgrounds is essential.
  • Must be able to move up to 25 pounds and push up to 50 pounds (on wheels).
  • Must be able to hear staff on the phone and those who are served in-person, and speak clearly in order to communicate information to clients and staff.
  • Must be able to have vision that is adequate to read memos, a computer screen, personnel forms and clinical and administrative documents.
  • Must have high manual dexterity.
  • Must be able to reach above the shoulder level to work, must be able to bend, squat and sit, stand, stoop, crouching, reaching, kneeling, twisting/turning, fingering and feeling.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual (English-Spanish) candidates are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Educate and engage with the public at outreach events who are seeking referrals or information regarding the Health Center's services.
  • Provide support to specific outreach initiatives aimed at promoting, integrating, and educating patients, school staff, students, families, and the broader community about the range of services offered by the Health Center.
  • Schedule regular outreach exhibitions in the community and seek new opportunities.
  • Attend events where Camarena Health will have a vendor booth and provide the following: setup and teardown, staging of vendor booth.
  • Maintain a schedule of events and complete comprehensive outreach reports.
  • Organize and maintain record outreach materials and supplies.
  • Assist with Promotor Program interventions/classes.
  • Prepare promotional materials and supplies for outreach events.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Provide support to fundraising initiatives and activities.
  • Participate in corporate and foundation campaigns that may include internal and external engagement.
