About The Position

We currently have an opportunity for a qualified individual to join the Laurier community as a Community Outreach Coordinator with the Sun Life Centre for Healthy Communities (CHC). The Sun Life CHC is a community-sponsored centre within Wilfrid Laurier University and is affiliated with the Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education. The Centre’s objective is to provide accessible physical activity and healthy living programming through community outreach initiatives. Over the past nine years, the Centre has focused on serving the greater Waterloo region and has now expanded programming opportunities into the Brantford community. The Community Outreach Coordinator plays a key role in advancing the mission of (CHC) by fostering meaningful community relationships, expanding community engagement, and supporting the delivery of inclusive physical activity and healthy living programs. Working collaboratively with the Manager, the Community Outreach Coordinator is responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with community organizations, schools, agencies, and other stakeholders to strengthen existing partnerships and identify new opportunities for collaboration. This role actively supports the Centre's growth by increasing community awareness, expanding participant reach, and identifying innovative opportunities to enhance program accessibility and impact. The Community Outreach Coordinator contributes to CHC's strategic vision by supporting initiatives that align with the Centre's pillars of Healthy Community and Healthy Growth. This includes empowering community members to recognize their capacity to influence positive health behaviours, fostering collaborative partnerships that strengthen community well-being, and promoting a culture of continuous learning, innovation, and evidence-informed practice. Through community engagement and partnership development, this position helps identify emerging community needs and supports the ongoing evolution of CHC programs, resources, and initiatives. In addition to community engagement responsibilities, the Community Outreach Coordinator is responsible for leading physical activity and healthy living programs for diverse populations. The successful candidate will create welcoming, inclusive environments that encourage participation, support positive health outcomes, and ensure high-quality program experiences while representing the Centre professionally within the community.

Requirements

• University degree in Kinesiology, Health Promotion, Recreation and Leisure Studies, Public Health, or another related field.
• Minimum one year of experience delivering physical activity, recreation, health promotion, or community-based programs to diverse populations.
• Experience building positive relationships with community members, volunteers, partner organizations, or other stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Demonstrated organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet established timelines.
• Ability to work independently while exercising sound judgment and seeking guidance when appropriate.
• Commitment to fostering inclusive, welcoming, and respectful environments that support participant engagement and belonging.
• Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and the ability to learn new software and registration systems.
• Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification, or the ability to obtain prior to employment.
• A valid Ontario Class G driver's licence and access to reliable transportation
• Recent experience working with children, youth, older adults, or individuals from diverse and underserved communities.

Responsibilities

• Deliver inclusive physical activity and healthy living programs that promote participant engagement and positive health outcomes.
• Build and maintain positive relationships with community organizations, schools, stakeholders, and participants to support existing partnerships, enhance community engagement, and identify opportunities for collaboration.
• Assist the Manager in expanding CHC's community reach by supporting outreach initiatives, promoting programs and services, and helping to connect new participants and community partners with the Centre.
• Collaborate with the Manager and CHC team to support initiatives that align with the Centre's strategic priorities, including contributing to a culture of continuous learning and evidence-informed practice.
• Represent CHC at community events, outreach activities, meetings, and engagements, acting as a professional ambassador for the Centre and its programs.
• Contribute to program quality by assisting with participant and parental/guardian communication and identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.
• When required, assist in preparing and maintaining program materials, and administrative documentation required to support effective program delivery and community engagement activities.
• Maintain effective communication and collaborative working relationships with participants, volunteers, community partners, and CHC staff while promoting a welcoming, inclusive, and respectful environment.
