About The Position

The Community Outreach Coordinator builds and maintains strong relationships between the Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) and communities across the state. This position plans, coordinates, and implements outreach initiatives that increase public awareness and understanding of ODOT’s projects, programs, and services.The ideal candidate is personable, highly organized, and passionate about relationship-building and public service. This role requires the ability to respond quickly, manage information effectively, think creatively, and deliver exceptional customer service. Experience in community outreach, event planning, and the transportation industry is strongly preferred.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree and four (4) years of professional level experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting one year of professional level experience for each year of the required education.
  • Knowledge of the methods of organization and management
  • Knowledge of public administration
  • Knowledge of agency policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of grant or contract program requirements
  • Knowledge of the legislative process
  • Knowledge of basic research and statistical techniques
  • Knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations relating to administration of assigned programs
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to establish and develop training programs
  • Ability to exercise good judgment in analyzing situations and making decisions
  • Ability to organize and present facts and opinions

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain positive relationships with communities, partners, stakeholders, nonprofits, schools, and local agencies throughout Oklahoma, with priority given to communities directly impacted by ODOT projects
  • Develop and maintain a working knowledge of Oklahoma communities and the transportation industry to support effective engagement
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of community contacts, partners, and stakeholders for use in community engagement and public involvement efforts
  • Develop outreach programs and initiatives aligned with ODOT’s goals and strategic priorities
  • Create engaging ODOT outreach materials that clearly and meaningfully convey agency messaging, including flyers, presentations, and other informational resources
  • Ensure outreach materials support ODOT programs and projects, are appropriate for various audiences, and meet physical and digital accessibility requirements
  • Plan, coordinate, and represent ODOT at community events, meetings, and public activities, including safety fairs, National Night Out events, public meetings, and statewide recognition events
  • Coordinate logistics, schedules, materials, and on-site support for outreach events
  • Manage ODOT’s annual Keep Our Land Grand art contest and awards luncheon, including coordination, promotion, and stakeholder communication
  • Oversee the production and distribution of ODOT’s Keep Our Land Grand calendar
  • Support sponsorship management related to the art contest and luncheon
