About The Position

The Community Outreach Coordinator will be responsible for assisting youth residing in the community in developing a housing plan. The Community Outreach Coordinator will continue to provide support and guidance to the youth for 6 months once they have transitioned out of facilities and or residential settings. The Community Outreach Coordinator will provide workshops which educate youth on rights and responsibilities as tenants, applications, credit information, various forms of housing available etc. Individual counseling will be provided weekly. The Community Outreach Coordinator will assist youth through process of locating, leasing and moving into household when applicable. The Community Outreach Coordinator will assist residents with acquiring and completing necessary documentation as well as managing mitigating issues with credit reports, utility arrears and unfavorable landlord references. The Community Outreach Coordinator will connect youth to any and all services needed to maintain stability in the community (mental health; wellness, childcare and prosocial activities).

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree.
  • At least two years working with youth in a residential or foster care environment and/or youth with a criminal justice background.
  • Experience and demonstrated knowledge of adolescent and child development.
  • Understanding of barriers/limitations impacting young adults' trajectory into the workforce or ability to maintain stable housing.
  • Experience with group work and family work.
  • Commitment to working with runaway homeless youth/young adults, and pregnant and parenting residents.
  • Ability to work with culturally diversified individuals.
  • Ability to conduct training and ongoing workshops.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to motivate others.
  • Ability to work as a team member.
  • Knowledge of community resources and skills to link residents with appropriate agencies and services.
  • Ability to establish professional boundaries.
  • Ability to engage in professional behaviors that emulate a high level of ethics and objective/non-judgmental approaches.

Responsibilities

  • Assist youth in developing a housing plan.
