About The Position

The Community Outreach Coordinator / Fire Inspector supports the Prevention Division by promoting fire and life safety through inspections, public education, community outreach, and community risk reduction initiatives. This position works collaboratively with District personnel, community partners, businesses, schools, and residents to improve public safety, reduce community risk, and support the District's mission, vision, and strategic goals. The position also assists with fire prevention inspections, plans review, wildfire mitigation education, special events, public information efforts, and other Prevention Division responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 21 years of age
  • Valid Colorado driver’s license with satisfactory driving record
  • NIMS 100 and 700 or obtained within 6 months of hire date
  • CPR/AED or obtained within 6 months of hire date

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor Degree or Associates Degree with equivalent experience, or training which provides the desirable knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Experience in the teaching or training field, or a related field is preferred.
  • Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience may be considered.
  • Experience in fire prevention, public education, public outreach, building construction, fire protection systems experience (inspecting, designing, and/or installing) or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience with public speaking, instructional presentations, and community engagement is highly desirable.
  • Firefighter I, S130/190, EMT Basic is highly desirable
  • State of Colorado Fire Investigator basic certification or obtained within 6 months of hire date
  • International Code Council (ICC) Fire Inspector I certification or obtained within 12 months of hire date
  • Fire & Life Safety Educator I within 2 years of hire date
  • Preferred Fire Inspector I or II
  • Fire & Life Safety Educator I or II
  • Youth Fire setter Intervention Specialist
  • NFPA Wildfire Mitigation Specialist or equivalent.
  • Public Information Officer (PIO) training

Responsibilities

  • Develop, coordinate, and present fire and life safety education programs for schools, businesses, civic organizations, community groups, and residents.
  • Coordinate community outreach events, open houses, station tours, Fire Prevention Week activities, and public safety campaigns.
  • Promote wildfire preparedness, defensible space, emergency preparedness, and community risk reduction initiatives.
  • Respond to public inquiries regarding fire prevention, life safety, and emergency preparedness.
  • Assist with smoke alarm, carbon monoxide alarm, and other public safety programs.
  • Conduct fire and life safety inspections as assigned.
  • Assist with fire code compliance inspections and follow-up inspections.
  • Assist with business pre-plans and occupancy familiarization activities.
  • Support wildfire mitigation education and defensible space outreach.
  • Maintain inspection records and related documentation.
  • Develop and maintain educational materials, presentations, handouts, and displays.
  • Maintain outreach records, inspection reports, program statistics, and required documentation.
  • Coordinate educational equipment, outreach materials, and program supplies.
  • Assist with evaluating community outreach programs and recommending improvements.
  • Support reporting requirements for the District, ISO, and other applicable agencies.
  • Work collaboratively with District staff and members, schools, businesses, community organizations, and partner agencies.
  • Represent the District at community meetings, special events, and educational programs.
  • Assist with District events and other community engagement activities.
  • Participate in District committees, training, and professional development.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Prevention Division Chief.
