About The Position

Mixteca is seeking a dynamic, self-motivated Community Organizer & Program Coordinator to coordinate day-to-day program operations and long-term community engagement for Mixteca's health, immigration, education, and social services initiatives and events. In collaboration with a wide array of organizations, institutions, and advocacy coalitions, and through on-the-ground, culturally targeted community outreach, the Community Organizer will serve as a liaison, base-build, and create engagement opportunities for Spanish-speaking and Indigenous-language immigrant families. While based at Mixteca's office in Brooklyn, this role will frequently involve working in nontraditional settings throughout the community to ensure accessibility and authentic engagement.

Requirements

  • BA or BS, or equivalent work experience at a nonprofit community organization, human rights, or community organizing field.
  • Highly developed and dynamic interpersonal skills with excellent verbal and written communication skills in both English and Spanish required.
  • Demonstrated success in serving hard-to-reach communities and capacity to coordinate a range of successful campaigns.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both in a team structure and independently.
  • Effective public speaker, with strong organizational skills and intent listening skills.
  • Experienced with Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides).

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and oversee the implementation of service base delivery activities — including caseload management, workshops, and events across Mixteca's program areas.
  • Lead planning, outreach, and logistics to ensure smooth program operations.
  • Monitor program outcomes and prepare reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Supervise program staff, interns, and volunteers; assign tasks and provide ongoing support to ensure quality work.
  • Conduct culturally relevant outreach to engage immigrant families in programming and services.
  • Build and sustain strong relationships with Latinx and Indigenous community members.
  • Identify emerging community needs and provide feedback to inform program development.
  • Collaborate with partner organizations, coalitions, and institutions to strengthen program reach and impact.
  • Represent Mixteca at community events, advocacy spaces, and external meetings.
  • Support community members in developing leadership skills and advocacy tools to advance equity and justice.
  • Facilitate educational and empowerment opportunities that promote civic participation and community voice.
  • Maintain accurate program records, including attendance, participant feedback, and outcome tracking.
  • Support grant reporting requirements with data collection and documentation.
  • Assist in volunteer coordination and supervision when needed.
  • Support with general administrative and operations needs, as necessary.
