Community Mental Health Worker
About The Position
Under supervision and in cooperation with Mental Health and Substance Abuse professionals and paraprofessionals, to learn to perform a variety of paraprofessional Mental Health and Substance Abuse services in the community or clinic setting, and to perform related work as required. This opening is in the Behavioral Health and Social Services Branch of the Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA) and serves Women’s Recovery & Resiliency Services program (Substance Use Treatment) and the CalWORKs Behavioral Health Team (CBHT). As a Community Mental Health Worker, you will be responsible for running & facilitating childcare cooperative services, providing & planning transportation services, working front reception, scheduling clients, screening intakes, maintaining medical records, and preforming community outreach/presentations in addition to other support tasks. This position requires working level knowledge of Microsoft Office and experience working with Children.
Requirements
- Completion of fifteen (15) semester or twenty-two (22) quarter units from an accredited college or university in behavioral or social sciences or closely related field; OR Two (2) years of experience working in a mental health or related setting.

- General medical and psychological terminology
- Ability to understand and work effectively with mentally ill and substance abuse clients
- Ability to work with mental health professional, case managers, social service agencies and other staff
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of information about clients
- Ability to effectively handle patients in crisis situations
- Ability to read and understand mental health charts
- Ability to communicate rules and objective to clients
- Ability to keep simple records and prepare written reports
- Working level knowledge of Microsoft Office

- Experience performing clerical duties including using Word, Excel, database entry, scheduling software, and management of spreadsheets

- Assisting clients in learning to use social support programs and resources outside of the mental health system
- Making home visits to monitor the level of client functioning
- Working as member of a treatment team to allow clients to live in the least restrictive setting
- Maintaining records of work performed and preparing written reports
- Assisting in initial intakes (processing of paperwork)
- Assisting in scheduling appointments
- Observing clients in individual and group settings or consulting with other staff in the program to obtain information regarding substance abuse problems and related needs
- Making referrals, providing information to other mental health or substance abuse agencies
- Participating in group case consultations, individual supervision and in-service training activities
- Supporting the transportation and childcare for the perinatal women in treatment to remove the barriers to women participating in treatment services
