About The Position

The Community Living Society (CLS) is an innovative non-profit organization dedicated to supporting adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities to live full, productive, and meaningful lives. The L.I.F.E. program focuses on supporting individuals in lifelong learning, inclusion and involvement in their communities, developing friendships and relationships, and employment. As a support worker, you will provide support and actively engage individuals to live fulfilling and increasingly independent lives. This involves helping individuals discover their community, learn new life skills, find employment, and more.

Requirements

  • Class 7 N driver's license
  • Access to a reliable vehicle
  • Ability to maneuver a wheelchair
  • First Aid and CPR Certificate
  • Clear criminal record (paid by CLS)
  • Clean driver’s abstract
  • Comfortable navigating transit system
  • Comfortable supporting in a pool (swimming activities) and gym setting
  • Comfortable with personal care

Nice To Haves

  • Prior paid or volunteer experience
  • Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Training
  • Knowledge of Mandt System®
  • Knowledge of Person Centered Active Supports
  • Comfortable standing/walking for long periods of time

Responsibilities

  • Providing individuals support with various life goals
  • Community outings (including, but not limited to volunteering, paid employment and leisure activities)
  • Maintaining records of daily activities and goal progression
  • Supporting the individuals to increase their network of unpaid supports
