About The Position

Under minimal supervision, this role supports the school's efforts to connect with and engage families and communities across the district. The Community Liaison offers consistent on-site support to school staff and families, aiding in communication, familiarizing new families with the school and community, and fostering effective relationships to ensure students can engage in deep learning.

Requirements

  • High School Equivalency (HSE) diploma
  • Two (2) years of administrative assistant/clerical, human resources, payroll, accounting, community liaison, or community/public relations experience.
  • Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Racially conscious and culturally competent with the skill, will, capacity, and knowledge to commit to a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Passing score on the district interpreting and translating test (if bilingual).
  • Intermediate knowledge of typical office equipment such as telephones, copiers, fax machines, email, etc.
  • Intermediate knowledge of common office application software.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Intermediate interpersonal relations skills.
  • Intermediate verbal and written communication skills.
  • Intermediate organizational skills.
  • Ability to operate common office equipment.
  • Ability to work alone and with others.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and policy books.
  • Criminal background check and fingerprinting required for hire.

Responsibilities

  • Support active parental involvement in children's education at home, at school, and across the district.
  • Welcome new families and support their integration into the school and surrounding community by creating familiarity and sharing resources.
  • Facilitate communication and understanding between families, school, and the community.
  • Introduce and welcome families to participate in school/community communication meetings (e.g., PASS, PTCO).
  • Promote regular student attendance by providing outreach and resources to families in need.
  • Collaborate with District offices to facilitate support for families and programs.
  • Develop strong relationships with school staff to assist students with academic, social, and emotional growth.
  • Gather and disseminate community and district resources.
  • Engage in ongoing training and professional development to support collaboration with families and the community.
  • Answer telephone, greet visitors, route calls, take messages, provide tours, give directions, and offer routine information and assistance to students, parents, and staff.
  • Support and assist the school's clinic on an emergency basis or when necessary.
  • Support district-level initiatives for the McKinney-Vento population, including direct community support of district resource pantries.
  • Monitor and reinforce appropriate student behavior during various activities (e.g., play, lunch, in-school suspension, classroom).
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
