These full-time and part-time contractual positions assist the Garrett County Health Department in fulfilling its mission of promoting, protecting, and improving the health of county residents. The roles involve providing in-home support services to families through intensive nurse home visiting and supporting non-nursing staff working with families through the Healthy Families America home visiting program. The objective is to improve birth outcomes, strengthen families, cultivate nurturing parent-child relationships, promote child health and developmental outcomes, promote family stability, build foundations for strong family functioning, and promote positive parenting practices. These positions enable individuals to maintain independence and well-being, assist in preserving family structure, promote functional home environments, and teach clients how to access and utilize available community resources. With guidance from the Community Health Nurse Supervisor, these positions work to improve parenting skills, reduce family stress, and meet the ongoing needs of the family unit to achieve optimal functioning. They promote family and child health through nursing assessment and planning, education, and linkage to other resources. Collaboration with other health professionals and community agencies is essential to support families' and children’s health, nutrition, safety, and development. Additionally, these positions support paraprofessionals working with families and provide childbirth education to expectant parents in accordance with Prepared Childbirth Educators Certification.
