About The Position

A Community Health Educator III designs, organizes and conducts health educational and promotional programs. Work of this class involves no supervisory duties or responsibilities. Incumbents receive moderate supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class work a conventional workweek. Work is performed in an office where working conditions are normal. Work requires minimal physical exertion.

Requirements

Have a bachelor's degree in public or community health education from an accredited college or university.
Have two years of experience performing public or community health education work.
Have a valid Maryland Class C Noncommercial driver's license or an equivalent driver's license and eligible to obtain a Baltimore City driver’s permit.
Knowledge of the principles and techniques of health education.
Knowledge of individual and group behavior.
Knowledge of facts and prevention of a wide variety of diseases, such as HIV/AIDS, STD and Tuberculosis.
Ability to utilize the computer and common business presentation software packages to prepare community health education and promotion materials.
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

Nice To Haves

Specific experience providing community health education in HIV/AIDS, Sexually Transmitted Diseases or Tuberculosis may be required.
Fluency in reading, writing, speaking and translating English into a non-English language.
Skill in speaking, translating, reading and writing a non-English language utilizing specific established rules pertaining to such factors as spelling in letters or characters in a Latin or non-Latin-based alphabet or writing system, word meanings, sentence structure, grammar, pronunciation, punctuation and other related language mechanics.

Responsibilities

Act as a health educational consultant.
Deal with city government officials and personnel and community groups and organizations.
