About The Position

A Community Health Educator III designs, organizes and conducts health educational and promotional programs. Work of this class involves no supervisory duties or responsibilities. Incumbents receive moderate supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class work a conventional workweek. Work is performed in an office where working conditions are normal. Work requires minimal physical exertion.

Requirements

  • Have a bachelor's degree in public or community health education from an accredited college or university.
  • Have two years of experience performing public or community health education work.
  • Have a valid Maryland Class C Noncommercial driver's license or an equivalent driver's license and eligible to obtain a Baltimore City driver’s permit.
  • Knowledge of the principles and techniques of health education.
  • Knowledge of individual and group behavior.
  • Knowledge of facts and prevention of a wide variety of diseases, such as HIV/AIDS, STD and Tuberculosis.
  • Ability to utilize the computer and common business presentation software packages to prepare community health education and promotion materials.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

Nice To Haves

  • Specific experience providing community health education in HIV/AIDS, Sexually Transmitted Diseases or Tuberculosis may be required.
  • Fluency in reading, writing, speaking and translating English into a non-English language.
  • Skill in speaking, translating, reading and writing a non-English language utilizing specific established rules pertaining to such factors as spelling in letters or characters in a Latin or non-Latin-based alphabet or writing system, word meanings, sentence structure, grammar, pronunciation, punctuation and other related language mechanics.

  • Act as a health educational consultant.
  • Deal with city government officials and personnel and community groups and organizations.
