About The Position

The Sedgwick County Health Department (SCHD) Community Health and Outreach Manager leads the Community Health and Outreach program that promotes wellness and prevents disease in the community by engaging Sedgwick County residents and community partners. The position oversees the Community Health Assessment and Community Health Improvement Plan and chronic and infectious disease health education and prevention. The position manages multiple community projects, performs outreach, and establishes and maintains SCHD partnerships with community agencies. The manager will assume a command level leadership position during public health emergencies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Two (2) years of work experience in public health, public service, and/or community service.
  • One year of work experience in planning projects.
  • One year of work experience with community organizations.
  • One year of experience or training in data management and/or data analysis.
  • One year of supervisory experience and/or experience evaluating the performance of others.
  • OR Four (4) years of work experience in public health, public service, and/or community service.
  • Two of the four years in public health, public service, and/or community service must include one year of work experience in planning projects, one year of work experience with community organizations, one year of experience or training in data management and/or data analysis, and one year of supervisory experience and/or experience evaluating the performance of others.
  • Valid US driver’s license without restrictions and current proof of automobile insurance.
  • Must complete Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA) IS 100, 200, 700, and 800 courses within 30 days of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Three (3) years of experience in coalition building, facilitation and/or research.
  • One (1) year of technical writing experience.
  • Three (3) years of work experience supervising and evaluating employees.
  • Two (2) years of health education experience.
  • Master’s degree in public health or a biological, medical, or health science or related public service field.
  • Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES), Certified in Public Health (CPH).

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for community events, support program messaging and materials, use community health data to evaluate and plan outreach efforts, participate in community leadership activities, and travel to SCHD and partner locations as needed.
  • Oversee the Community Health Assessment and Improvement Plan by guiding staff, developing evidence-based education and outreach with community partners, evaluating program policies, identifying service gaps and performance metrics, conducting evaluations, ensuring accurate reporting, coordinating grants, and serving on the SCHD Management Team.
  • Manage contracts, grants, budgets, and expenditures; supervising and coaching staff; providing strategic guidance to expand program reach; maintaining staff roles and expectations; coordinating recruitment and onboarding; and ensuring timely, accurate reporting on program progress and grant deliverables.
