The Community Engagement Manager contributes to the work of the management team, offering expertise and strategic oversight of community engagement initiatives and special community-based events that support relationship-building and donor base expansion (both financial and in-kind donations). Requirements

  • Completion of a formal post-secondary/college program of two academic years in a related field
  • At least three years of related experience
  • Digital Marketing expertise with strategies for marketing and promotions in non-profits.
  • energetic, takes initiative, team player, organized and productive.
  • Volunteer coordination experience.
  • Knowledge and skill in social media platforms and management (Facebook, Instagram, Google Business, Google Ads, Later)
  • Basic Knowledge in website management (WordPress and plugins).
  • Knowledge and skill in Microsoft Office (including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Knowledge of digital production and graphic design (Adobe Creative Cloud: InDesign, Photoshop, Flash, and Illustrator).
  • Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
  • Strong communication skills – written and oral/public speaking – comfortable being “on camera”.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of Volunteer Management database system (Salesforce) is an asset.
  • Media relations skills/training is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Lead community engagement using TSA best practices to build and sustain partnerships with businesses, service clubs, community groups, and stakeholders in support of OC3’s mission and programs.
  • Represent the Ministry Unit externally, serving as liaison to service clubs and assisting Corps Officers with relationship‑building and communication with local MLAs and MPs.
  • Plan, coordinate, attend, and directly support community events, outreach activities, and special initiatives to maximize visibility and awareness of TSA programs and services.
  • Develop and strengthen external partnerships to support fundraising activities and external drives (e.g., Toy Drives, Food Drives), including leading seasonal campaigns and their promotion.
  • Collaborate with the Volunteer Manager to recruit volunteer groups and support volunteer engagement, including assisting with volunteer appreciation initiatives.
  • Oversee and execute staff appreciation events and provide on‑site supervision to staff and volunteers supporting events and special initiatives.
  • Support development and financial sustainability by cultivating donor relationships, identifying new product sources for retail operations, and designing or supporting fundraising initiatives aligned with TSA values.
  • Research grant opportunities and support grant writing, reporting, and follow‑up, providing recommendations to the Operations Director.
  • Lead communications and marketing efforts, including social media strategy, website management, email newsletters, media relations, and creation of written and graphic promotional materials in collaboration with DHQ/THQ PR.
  • Manage moderate material and minor financial responsibilities, including responsible use of resources, handling small amounts of cash, supporting budget preparation, committee participation, and limited input into policy development, while reporting to the Corps Officer.
  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Provide an original copy of a Background Check that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required, including Child Check (if appropriate).
