About The Position

Join our dynamic team at Health Council of Northwest Ohio as a Community Engagement Intern and play a vital role in fostering a vibrant, supportive, and connected community in Queens Village. This internship offers a unique opportunity to develop your skills in community outreach, digital platform management, event planning, and relationship building, all while contributing to meaningful initiatives that improve health in our community. This position is part time temporary, approximately 16 hours/week for 36-40 weeks. HCNO is a mission-driven, health-focused nonprofit dedicated to improving health outcomes across the 18 counties within Northwest Ohio. HCNO leads innovative programs, community initiatives, and collaborative partnerships that advance population health and strengthen community well-being. Queens Village Toledo, a program of HCNO, is a supportive community where Black women come together to rest, relax, recharge, and care for themselves and one another. Through sisterhood, education, advocacy, and wellness-focused programming, Queens Village creates safe spaces for Black mothers to connect, reduce chronic stress, and learn about the factors that impact their health. By fostering support and empowerment, Queens Village works to improve maternal and infant health outcomes while addressing racial disparities in birth outcomes.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships and engage diverse populations.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport and trust in the community.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to learn specialized software platforms.
  • Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and ability to travel throughout the service area as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in community outreach, participant engagement, customer service, or program coordination preferred.
  • Experience managing social media platforms, newsletters, online communities, or marketing initiatives preferred.
  • Experience planning events and coordinating volunteers is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Support participant engagement and retention efforts, including participant follow-up, relationship building, member support, and ongoing retention strategies.
  • Assist with the Village's Mighty Networks platform, including member onboarding, content development and posting, moderation, platform administration, and community growth initiatives.
  • Develop and implement community outreach and marketing activities, including social media management, newsletter development, flyer creation, awareness campaigns, and promotional materials.
  • Assist with implementation of Community Care Plans by identifying participant needs, providing resource navigation, and facilitating referrals to appropriate community services and supports.
  • Coordinate Queens Village events and activities, including promotion, planning, logistics, registration, volunteer coordination, and on-site event support.
  • Represent Queens Village at community meetings, health fairs, outreach events, and other community engagement opportunities.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with participants, community organizations, service providers, and other stakeholders.
  • Assist with data collection, reporting, and program evaluation activities as needed.
  • Attend meetings, trainings, and community events as required.
